Hope everybody had a great weekend! Now that the pounding in my head has reached its normal dull thud and I can think about soon-to-be-gone Tony Fauci without retching, it’s time to check in on some covid numbers!
If you’re one of the (many) new subscribers to Screaming into the Void, you may want to ‘catch up’ on some previous stories about the seasonality of covid. This has been obvious since the summer of 2020, and is how us “seasonality theorists” have been correctly predicting virus activity since.
Let’s take a quick peek into what the HHS hospitalization data (IMO the best of a bunch of bad data sets) looked like about a month ago, at the predicted lowest point of virus activity before the sunbelt gets its summer spike:
Overall, the numbers look pretty good. Only a couple states are even above 5%, and those are barely over. Less than 4% of beds are taking by patients with a positive test. Almost a quarter of all beds are unused, meaning there’s PLENTY of room in the system to handle additional patients. It’s important to point out - we’re seeing these numbers as basically everybody in the country is done with covid rules. There’s no mandatory masks or distancing or any of the pandemic theater from 2020/2021. (More on that later!)
This brings us to the middle of July, which gives us a chance to compare data from 2020 & 2021 with what we see today. Here’s a flashback at what the map looked like in the past (2020 on the left).
The most striking thing about these two data captures are the near-perfect latitude cutoffs between north and south. It’s almost as if the virus doesn’t exist in the north, while the south is being hammered. (Exactly as predicted by Hope-Simpson) In 2020, the ‘experts’ blamed ‘idiot anti-maskers’ in the south for this disparity, only to watch the entire country get rolled by the winter wave. Undaunted, the same ‘experts’ blamed ‘idiot anti-vaxxers’ in the south for the disparity in 2021, only (stop me if you’ve heard this one) to watch the entire country get rolled by the winter wave.
However, in 2022 something has changed……….
First, the good news. Even in the south, virus activity is low. We expect that each wave we see will be smaller than the last, because fewer people remain susceptible to the virus. That seems to be the case. There’s no worry that covid will overwhelm the hospitals (and there hasn’t been since April 2020).
The trouble comes when we look north. Why are so many states seeing early summer covid hospitalizations now, when they didn’t see those hospitalizations in previous years?
Lets drill into Washington state to see if we can get some answers. Here we have total hospital utilization and percentage of covid patients:
Unsurprisingly from my perspective (as I’ve done this particular graph about a million times), total hospital utilization has remained flat the entire pandemic, regardless of how many covid patients are in the hospital. We do see a slight rise last year, that’s when Jay Inslee mandated jabs for state workers (including healthcare workers) and our total healthcare capacity fell. (That’s what you do in a healthcare crisis, right? Fire nurses?)
Drill in further and we can get this comparison:
According to the state of Washington, we have almost TRIPLE the covid patients this year as we did last year. (Also, please note the nearly 5,000 bed DROP in our capacity!) So what changed between 2020 & 2021, where we see seasonality followed almost 100%, and 2022, when the virus doesn’t clear out of the north?
And this is exactly why everybody in the scientific community KNEW not to vaccinate in the middle of a pandemic. The jab trains your body to fight the virus in a very specific way — and when (not if) the virus mutates to get around that reaction, your body has no way to react. It’s like training for months to fight a southpaw boxer who loves jabs, then showing up to the fight to realize your opponent is a righty who throws hooks and uppercuts — you’re not prepared (or protected) like you thought you were.
This type of data is apparent elsewhere in the world. Joel Smalley @ Dead Man Talking recently discussed New South Wales (Australia) numbers. Gato malo has been beating on the UK drums for a while (until they started hiding the data, that is). In Germany, eugyppius shows how vaccinations are making covid worse. Andreas Oehler repeatedly brings up the numbers in Canada. Indeed, it seems that everywhere you look, you find ‘inconvenient’ data about the vaccination program.
And that matters to the ‘experts’………..not at all. Indeed, places like Seattle are once again considering mask mandates and setting the stage for MORE lockdowns, and Jay Inslee has already mandated boosters (and all future boosters!) for state workers. I hate to say I told you so, but this is EXACTLY what I was talking about when I stated that we had to make a push to end emergency powers and stop subverting the regular law-making process of the country. ‘Leaders’ like Jay Inslee aren’t going to give this power back to the people — we’re going to have to take it.
Long before their ascension, Socrates made clear in Plato’s Republic that he did not want public health officials to rule, because such an order would encourage excessive risk-aversion and ultimately result in transforming cowardice into a virtue. We've witnessed it in real-time.
Sad that data gets ignored by officials. They double down in order to pretend their policies work when it's clear they don't.
