Starting to look like this is the new norm for trials in blue cities. If you are a conservative, the jurors will be intimidated into voting against you while letting actual violent criminals out of jail.
What else can you expect from a group founded by the explicitly Stalinist Kommunistische Partei Deutschland, in 1932, in Germany?
---
> Also missing from the story is that the defense attorney — conveniently retiring Michelle Burrows — told the jury that she "will remember each one of their faces" after earlier declaring “I am Antifa”.
How is this not grounds for an immediate mistrial? And, y'know, charging the attorney with contempt?
That would have been the judge's responsibility, but he/she is probably antifa as well. You have to understand, not accept, but understand these cities were founded by communists from across the Bering sea. 120 years ago, these northwest coastal towns were settle by mostly Russian, communist or Marxist fisherman. They didn't leave.
It's so ironic to have moved out of LA after the Rodney King riots of '92 to Portland in '98. Portland had no graffiti, I mean NONE, it was such a pleasant change. Downtown was beautiful, walkable, safe, and the waterfront was so inviting. Great restaurants, etc. Now we are looking to get the hell out of here as soon as possible, even though we are 10+ miles away from the stench of downtown, the governor is literally worse than that last, and the mayor is an idiot, and they have learned nothing. I don't blame the jury for being intimidated, after all they live in teh birthplace of antifa and know what these freaks are capable of. Where to move next? The west coast is ruined. 😥
That is so true and sad. We're here in Cali but don't believe there is anywhere to really run to. The frustrating thing to me is seeing all these Californians moving hither and yon and bringing their stupid with them. Leaving because of crime, tax, etc. and then going to the new area and voting in the same type of idiots seems so counterproductive and unfair to those already living in sane areas. And Portland is my hometown and it hurts my heart to see what it has become. I refuse to step into Oregon as it's too far gone right now.
......you'd be a rich man :) So true. My hometown in CA is ruined as far as it's government, but has remained still safe and beautiful. Of course, I can't afford to move back there!
I just made reference to that scene from Maverick over on Jeff Childers' 'stack!! So, so, so applicable to our beautiful Pacific Northwest! Even Emmett Watson had no idea just how horrendous it would become!!
Antifa -- "Antifaschistische Aktion" -- was founded in 1932 by Ernst Thalmann, head of the explicitly Stalinist Kommunistische Partei Deutschland (Communist Party of Germany).
Later, the term was used in "die Antifaschistische Shutzwand", or, "The Antifascist Protection Rampart". More commonly known in the West as "The Berlin Wall".
They even still use the same logo.
Political groups from 1930's Germany should be left in the dustbin of history, but here we are, with these assclowns infesting our country...
Same with us over here in the ‘Couv. Moved to PDX in 1998. Moved over here in 2001. Agree that PDX and Vancouver were clean, beautiful, safe. PDX as we knew it is gone. Vancouver is following behind. Throwing all its energy into the waterfront development, which now looks like the Pearl in PDX. The rest of the city is sliding down to hell. High crime, not enough police and WA laws ham string the cops that are left. We are making our moving plans too. Out of the PNW, out of the West Coast.
My husband and I would love to connect. We are surrounded by woke activists. Does this platform have a DM feature? If not, I am on Telegram as @Meri_TrumpBear (aka Meri Bearie).
When you do, we few Patriots should get to know each other IRL. Strength in numbers or just moral(e) support. Our author SC can help us find each other. I am a native Oregonian but we haven’t been over to Portland since 2017. We used to go to games, plays, concerts, restaurants, but no more. It started with the virtue signaling from the stage (actors and musicians), but then it became safety for us and the vehicle we came in. We decided there is plenty to do over here, despite what the JayBird has done to our state. There are pockets of sanity still here, and not too far to drive to enjoy them. At least for now.
I don't know. Perhaps you missed the anti-mandate overpass protests? Instead of a 1000 year Reich it was nearly 1000 days to slow the spread of sanity and freedom. There's someone whose carbon footprint is in the shape of a jack boot!
Don't beat yourself up. The Devil goes by many names. Unless we work hard we will end up with his BFF BF. Talk about a frying pan to fire scenario. At least Jay is stupid. I'll take evil and stupid over evil and smart any day.
I have a nephew that went to Portland for school. He was a sweet kid when he left. He came back a nonbinary agnostic communist. Good times! My advice? Get as far from the city, any city, as you can.
Agreed. The only silver lining about the upcoming chaos is that it will engulf the cities long before the small towns. (And hopefully that's enough to stop it there.)
I am a born and raised Oregonian. Left in the 80’s. I got married at the Portland Marriott it was such a beautiful place.. sigh... last time I was in Oregon there was TRASH on the road from Mt Hood to Portland. What the hell - keep Oregon green.
I can’t believe what happened to Andy Ngo. Mind boggling. He is a brave soul.
First NYC which was a step down. Then Giuliani cleaned it up and it was awesome for a time. Then a couple of other places on the East Coast and now.... Florida. Not going to lie - it is hot AF here in July, there are gators and snakes, I miss mountains, I miss West Coast people - not the crazies.. but it is clean, safe cost of living is decent and the quality of life overall is pretty darn good, no income tax, state budget surplus, free college tuition to state schools if you get a 3.5 gpa., etc
[I briefly interrupt this message to give note to Aidan Kierney of Turtleboy Daily News, also an independent journalist, from whom Andy Ngo stole credit for the breaking of several stories that reached national attention, including from Fox News.]
It's certainly hard not to suspect the hidden hand of quite malign forces when looking at these pictures. I try to stay as rational as my temperament allows, but the attempted complete destruction of ordinary lives in pleasant neighborhoods is hard to take without the mind escaping in all sorts of directions. Right now in NY, recreation centers and playing fields are being taken away from the neighborhood kids who need them so that Mayor Adams, who suddenly finds himself self-screwed by having declared himself a defender of sanctuary cities, can house migrants he has no place for.
Based in MA. He started out writing a really skeezy blog called "Turtleboy Sports" that had as nasty a comments section as one can find, plus a likewise sort of podcast, and then he improved his standards a bit. Works hard to break stories with good factual research so Andy Ngo stabbing him in the back was a big blow.
Interesting! Thanks for the background! And I agree with the rest of that first post, as well. "Public services" are cratering all around the country right when people need them the most due to circumstances beyond their control. Imagine being stuck relying on public transportation to get to work these days!
When I read about what happened to this case, it's easy to conclude that the best way to serve jury duty in a criminal case nowadays is to be completely masked and hooded up with dark sunglasses or goggles on. Alternatively, wear a burqa.
This is Portland, the jurors should have all worn the largest masks they could find and just said it was because they were afraid of covid. I remember when the mask mandate was lifted, my husband and I went to Costco and aside from us there was only one woman without a mask on their face.
I lived in Portland for 35 years until I recently fled. I loved that once beautiful city, and I loathe the deformed monster it has become. I watched it rise throughout the 1990s to become arguably the most beautiful and safe American city by the turn of the century, then I watched its sickening decline and suicide. Nobody wants to talk about the causes of death, but they are Democrats, Diversity, Drugs, and Delusional thinking. In 1985 Oregon was a red state with two Republican Senators and a Republican governor; that all changed by Y2K. Portland in 1985 was also almost entirely populated by European-Americans, and that lack of diversity contributed to a solidarity of purpose, decency, honesty, and safety. The Democrats ridiculed Portland for being "too white" and began their racist campaign against the city's European culture. That was aided by Obama's lax border policies that began to change the demographics of the city and encourage the flow of heroin and other drugs up the I-5 corridor to the streets of Portland. Homelessness, poverty, petty crime and hopelessness replaced Portland's once thriving culture. The final phase of the illness was masochistic delusional thinking that manifested in self-loathing tirades about racism that predictably culminated in Portland's Summer of Love in 2020. As the BLM/Antifa savages sacked and burned downtown in the name of "social justice," Democrats throughout the city put signs in their front yards in support of the thuggery. That was when I knew the city could not be saved: these people yearned for their own self immolation. I left and now live in a beautiful small town in a red county that lacks Democrats, Diversity and Drugs. There are a few delusional people here who lament the lack of "diversity" and some of them set up a welcome wagon for homeless people and drug addicts in the hope of attracting more Democrats to the area. It is critical that we share our cautionary tale to save others from the barbarism that consumed a city we loved.
I always wondered how much of those signs were self-preservation......not only from the angry rampaging mob, but from the disapproving glares of your neighborhood Karens.......
I wondered about the self-preservation aspect too, but if so they were just like the Jewish concentration camp inmates who helped the Nazis run the camps. It saved them for a while but they still wound up in the oven with everybody else. Incidentally thanks for writing about Portland's wonderful past. I sometimes remember the sad final song from the musical Camelot: "don't let it be forgot that once there was a spot, for one bright shining moment . . . " I thought of that song as we drove out of the ruined city of Portland where truth had become stranger than fiction.
"Incidentally thanks for writing about Portland's wonderful past. It's funny, I've had multiple people say the same thing to me today. We loved Portland so much that it kind of hurts to remember how awesome it used to be.......
I lived about an hour from Portland during 2020-21. I had colleagues who lived in the city who would walk out their door in the morning to find homeless people sacked out on their porches. I knew someone whose 4-year-old daughter saw someone get killed in front of their house in one of these riots. People couldn't get out of there fast enough. When we sold our house, we sold to a guy from the city who worked there, but wanted not to live there, anymore. I am in western SD now, and much happier. Pretty soon, anyone with a job is going to leave the city and it will just be a big shanty town.
And the rest of the state is having none of it. Everything east of Bend wants to be part of Idaho, and everything south of Eugene wants to form the State of Jefferson with northern California.
When we put our L.O. house on the market in April 2021, we had six offers within 24 hours. Every single offer was far above asking price and every single buyer was from Portland proper. We bought a house all the way across the country and I have not set foot in Oregon since I drove out with my car loaded up and pointed toward my new home state.
It does make me sad when I think of what Portland used to be back in the late 90s, early 2000s. It was a vibrant city with creative, young entrepreneurs and a gorgeous natural setting. Yeah, that looks more like what we're dealing with here. Oregon wanted to commission a report (maybe they did) about the second-hand effects of fentanyl smoke on public transportation........instead of just stopping the behavior.........
It is mind-boggling until you think about all the money attached to it. Then you realize why they don't want to stop it. It isn't about 'not judging' because they certainly have no problem judging/writing laws regarding your water heater and car, it is about an industry that has been created and they need to defend their turf
This verdict shocks and depresses me to the core. I cannot help but think that these despicable Antifa bullies have scared anybody , even chosen jury members, from carrying out justice. UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE !
Starting to look like this is the new norm for trials in blue cities. If you are a conservative, the jurors will be intimidated into voting against you while letting actual violent criminals out of jail.
Sadly the case. And it works, because the jury lives in the area.
I was on a jury recently. It was scary to me how openly biased 2/3 of the jurors were. They ignored facts and instead ruled based on their feelings.
"Message on the white courtesy phone for Box Four?"

"bringing their stupid with them" 🤣 perfect.
hee hee
During all of this people in Coeur d’Alene were waiting on streets with guns, because it was rumoured that antifa was on their way.
We have a whole state waiting on streets with guns. We call it Florida.
......you'd be a rich man :) So true. My hometown in CA is ruined as far as it's government, but has remained still safe and beautiful. Of course, I can't afford to move back there!
The whole situation reminds me of the scene in Maverick:
"You sure do pick the spots."
"I know. Next time you people drive us off our land, I'll find some swampland so awful maybe you'II leave us alone."
I just made reference to that scene from Maverick over on Jeff Childers' 'stack!! So, so, so applicable to our beautiful Pacific Northwest! Even Emmett Watson had no idea just how horrendous it would become!!
Mrs. "the Knife"
Love that movie!
They infested and destroyed Asheville, NC, and are spreading to surrounding towns, rather like a fungal infection.

Well when they start rioting down here, we will disable them for the rest of the nation.
I've always thought that the rise in tagging is directly related to the decline of a city.
100%
They cleaned the retaining walls all along I-5 in Seattle for the All-Star Game and Taylor Swift concert. Tags were back up before the visitors left.
Broken window syndrome.

Sent you a message so we can make it happen :)
So there's a few of us still left in the PNW! I didn't know Vancouver was just as bad. I'm going to be commuting up there soon for work.
Vancouver is on the downslide for sure, but there are still good areas.
This is correct.

Fair point.
I could not believe that verdict. Why isn’t that defense atty being sanctioned, disbarred, arrested for jury intimidation????? I hope Ngo will appeal
That's why I said conveniently retiring........
Lets hope he files a civil suit to boot.
This was a civil suit.
"I am Antifa." Always believe people when they tell you who they are. 🤑

Jesus Christ, Andy Ngo was a hero the entire time...what can we do now to help him.
Stupid stupid brainwashed zombies.
Portland now is the domaine of the walking dead.
I lived about an hour from Portland during 2020-21. I had colleagues who lived in the city who would walk out their door in the morning to find homeless people sacked out on their porches.
Same. Bidding war and $15k above asking price.
Well done!
As bad as LA, it could always be worse - it could be Portland.
Sad but true.
My dad sent an article from NYT on how wonderful the LA metro is to see the city. I was f&*%ing flabbergasted. The metro is a hellhole. The article showed all these wonderful photos with nary a tent nor feces in sight. I took the metro to downtown LA a few months ago. It was flat out scary. I almost got off to take an Uber but I was too ashamed seeing all the working poor - especially older women - forced to take this dangerous transport. Our city council person had someone on her staff who was part of the group 'All Cops Are Bastards.' What a sick world these over-educated callous Neo-Marxists have created.
If you get pictures of said hellhole, let me know! I'd be very interested to see it.
Fortunately for us with the Olympics coming, they need to clean up the city for our Hollywood 'close up.'
I haven't had a need to take the metro downtown. This is a more accurate picture by the LA Times and it was published around the last time I was on it. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2023-03-14/horror-the-deadly-use-of-drugs-on-metro-trains
YES YES YES YES A MILLION TIMES YES.
This verdict shocks and depresses me to the core. I cannot help but think that these despicable Antifa bullies have scared anybody , even chosen jury members, from carrying out justice. UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE !
And I was so hopeful for a Portland revival.......
Until Antifa is taken down, Portland and it's residents will have to continue to toe the line.
