I was going to write a long article explaining why Biden’s Philadelphia 2.0 speech was BS — you can read my take on the first one here — but it turns out that NPR has done my work for me, I only need to present it:
SUPRISE! It’s a political move designed to get the weaker candidate into the general election — shocking exactly nobody who thought about the issue for more than 10 seconds. NPR helpfully explains the strategy:
You don’t get to bankroll MAGA Republicans in the primary so you can face them in the election, then claim to be dismayed about how many MAGA Republicans are on the ballot. The jig is up.
The talented group at Dissident Army delivered a special spicy meme for this post!
Remember when Democrats did this to run against Trump in 2016?
https://www.salon.com/2016/11/09/the-hillary-clinton-campaign-intentionally-created-donald-trump-with-its-pied-piper-strategy/
In its self-described "pied piper" strategy, the Clinton campaign proposed intentionally cultivating extreme right-wing presidential candidates, hoping to turn them into the new "mainstream of the Republican Party" in order to try to increase Clinton's chances of winning.
The Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee called for using far-right candidates "as a cudgel to move the more established candidates further to the right." Clinton's camp insisted that Trump and other extremists should be "elevated" to "leaders of the pack" and media outlets should be told to "take them seriously."
Hope that works out. I remember arming the Taliban though….
