They should have found two thieves to fire with him - one at his right hand, the other at his left hand. Then they should have gambled for his Rolodex as the blood spattered them. Then he'd be done, forever. Right? This will go down as the greatest PR blunder in two millenia.
This is all I could think of when watching the Tucker "see you soon" monologue:
"There are those of course, who don't want us to speak... Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there?... And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror."
Love the STAR WARS reference. I was a teenager when the first film came out in 1977 and I love working dialog from the film into my conversations. If only I had children to pass that on to.
I was the Jewish Lawyer at the Christian Coalition between 2000 and 2005. I was there for the transition between the Clinton administration and Bush the Younger. Even then, there was a toxic environment in DC. I remember being out at one of my favorite DC watering holes near Capitol Hill on a Friday night. My favorite bartender introduced me to her fiancé, a staffer for Barbara Boxer. While we were talking, a woman with an English accent heard about where I was working and verbally went after me because of abortion. My efforts to defuse the situation failed; she was drunk and did not want a debate. Afterwards, the Boxer staffer said to me, "On behalf of all liberals, I want to apologize to you." We had a great conversation during which he admitted that the tone set by the Bush administration was less aggressive and antagonistic than the tone set by the Clintons.
Your username reminded me May 4th is a few days away. Btw, Bush loved slaughtering innocent Muslims. And the reason the Bush administration seemed less antagonistic at the beginning was because nobody had a clue how powerful the right wing echo chamber was including Bush/Rove. So no president could ever get away with invading another country like Bush did but Fox News gave him the power to do so and Bush was wholly unfit to be president—vote for me because I have the same name as the president from 8 years ago!!
It still floors me that we watched cities burning, people being murdered and read obvious calls for assassination and killing of people in 2020, and that was considered mostly peaceful. But if Tucker or anyone else points out the war in Ukraine, doesn't want trans people shaking their glitter covered junk in the faces of children and dares to speak out regarding TRUMPs warp speed death jab, they are inciting violence. I'm getting to the point that I almost burst out laughing at the absurdity of everything going on in upside down clown world
A sense of humor is essential in weathering the madness. It's sometimes the only thing that keeps you from going mad yourself. And they ARE pretty laughable, if they weren't so aggressively dedicated. Maybe instead of taking them seriously, we should all be meeting their buffoonery with loud shouts of laughter. If nothing else, it makes them mad and forces their hand. I mean, they don't know what a woman is? C'mon. 😂😂😂😂😂
I will believe Tucker has been unleashed when I see him unleashed. A three minute "proof of life" video is not that.
Fox is going to pay out his contract, while holding him to a non-compete agreement which prohibits him from broadcasting elsewhere. Sure, he can fight it in court, if he can find a lawyer willing to take on Fox, now that Fox has been assumed into the Borg. But how long is that going to take?
It's tempting to say, well he should just go out there and start his own channel or whatever, but if his contract with Fox has a non-compete that was competently written, he is risking being wiped out in a lawsuit if he finds himself in front of the wrong judge. Will he throw caution to the wind? That's his call, but he isn't sitting on Murdoch money, he has a family to support.
How much does a non-compete contract have the right to impact your ability to get a job in your chosen field? I suppose if they buy him out, that's that. I care more about what Tucker has to say about corrupt government, lying, cheating crooked politicians, what's really going on in foreign conflicts, etc than his talking shit about Fox. We all know they're the enemy. For that matter, we know what Tucker knows, but there are a lot of people who don't and he needs to keep speaking to those people.
Yeah, huh? Can't stop a guy from talking can they? I have no clue how these things work. I suppose it all depends on what you agreed to. That's a dick move, if Fox is just keeping him to his contract, just to shut him up. But wars are won by dick moves, I guess.
He's probably got three years left for $60M or four years for $80M.
Typically what that turns into is freedom to practice his trade, but for 2/3 of that money. Fox will take that tradeoff in a second to save the money, they don't really care all that much what Tucker does next. They do care about nondisparagement, so that will mean he won't be saying much about Fox in the future.
Also at play here is timing... Fox has an incentive to write down the cost in the same quarter as the Dominion lawsuit, because the added dollars look less big when wrapped up in $780M. So they want to cut a deal by June 30.
Finally, don't discount that Tucker's going to make $20M a year no matter what he chooses to do next. So, if the choice for Tucker is sit and home and make $20M a year or work and have influence and a voice and make $20M a year, while some would choose the easy path many would choose the opportunity, not least because it may not be there in three years if you're too quiet.
I was thinking about this again and looked it up... Rush Limbaugh was making $85M a year, with an audience of 15M. Tucker has that kind of potential to look forward to.
I was waiting for that close, good job. I can imagine that in the form of a quote from Tucker, “Fox, ...”
Also made me reflect a little on how Obi Wan totally gas lights Luke regarding his father, hid knowledge of his sister, and creepily promises to be with him always. Substitute your favorite corrupt regulator or fascist media mogul for Obi Wan. I can imagine the short film now, The Gaslighting of Luke Skywalker.
I looked up the scene on imdb. Wow it’s a doozy!
Luke Skywalker : [approaching R2-D2] I can't do it, R2. I can't go on alone.
Obi-Wan : [from out of sight] Yoda and I will always be with you.
Luke Skywalker : Obi-Wan.
[Obi-Wan's spirit approaches Luke]
Luke Skywalker : Ben! Why didn't you tell me? You told me that Darth Vader betrayed and murdered my father.
Obi-Wan : Your father... was seduced by the Dark Side of the Force. He ceased to be the Jedi Anakin Skywalker and "became" the Sith Darth Vader. When that happened, the good man who was your father was destroyed. So, what I told you was true... from a certain point of view.
Luke Skywalker : A certain point of view?
Obi-Wan : Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view. Anakin was a good friend. When I first met him, your father was already a great pilot. But I was amazed how strongly the Force was with him. I took it upon myself to train him as a Jedi. I thought that I could instruct him just as well as Yoda. I was wrong.
Luke Skywalker : There is still good in him.
Obi-Wan : He's more machine now than man. Twisted and evil.
Luke Skywalker : I can't do it, Ben.
Obi-Wan : You cannot escape your destiny. You must face Darth Vader again.
Luke Skywalker : I can't kill my own father.
Obi-Wan : Then the Emperor has already won. You were our only hope.
Luke Skywalker : Yoda spoke of another.
Obi-Wan : The other he spoke of is your twin sister.
Luke Skywalker : But I have no sister.
Obi-Wan : Hmm. To protect you both from the Emperor, you were hidden from your father when you were born. The Emperor knew, as I did, if Anakin were to have any offspring, they would be a threat to him. That is the reason why your sister remains safely anonymous.
Luke Skywalker : Leia! Leia is my sister.
Obi-Wan : Your insight serves you well. Bury your feelings deep down, Luke. They do you credit, but they could be made to serve the Emperor.
I was so pissed off with that plot twist; but then I was pissed off with Vader being Luke's father plot twist too. I was 17 years old when STAR WARS hit the theaters.
A few years ago I purchased a self-published book that discussed what the STAR WARS universe was like before EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. The back story was much simpler. There was a whole galaxy of adventure before us with a simple story line...but then Lucas decided to change things around and impose a different framework on the story:
"Now, i want to take you back to the beginning. May 25th, 1977. STAR WARS has been released. There is no 'Episode IV,' there is no "A New Hope" - those are additions in the years to come. For now, there is only STAR WARS, a magical fairy tale about a young farm boy who fights an evil Empire and rescues a beautiful princess, along with the help of his wizard mentor, loyal droid servants, pirate friend and a cowardly lion. A mysterious power known as 'The Force' aids the hero with the strength to vanquish the forces of evil and destroy the battle station Death Star, while the menacing black knight of the Empire, Darth Vader, survives the battle; the conflict between good and evil will continue another day. Ending the tale, the heroes are bestowed medals of honour in light of their heroic deeds which stand to 'restore freedom to the galaxy,' just as the opening scroll promised."
My wife and I recently listened to a podcast where a friend showed another friend STAR WARS for the first time. The neophyte commented that there was less to the story than she expected; no "I am your father;" no cliffhanger leading directly to a sequel. And that was the world I remember for 3 years, until EMPIRE came out. Lucas narrowed the range of the story when he ret-conned Vader into being Luke's father, and Leia into Luke's sister.
I was 10. Saw it in the theater in Quincy. Full page print ad in the Boston Globe if I recall. Simpler times. Thanks for bringing me back to the wonders of a beautifully done movie.
my daughter majored in journalism, graduated 3 yrs ago. She is now a working comedian. A previous college friend asked if she felt bad about not using her degree. She said " Not at all. With comedy I get to stand up and tell the truth."
There's this constant question about how many people really pay attention to the cable news channels. Even Fox News has an audience that's only a sliver of the number of people who vote for Republicans.
You raise an important issue: what IS the purpose and utility of the State Media now? Pre-Trump and "fake news" most people essentially believed the propaganda (an advantage the Soviets never had). Now? The audiences for these shows are the Regime zombies, so the shows communicate the Uniparty Line of the day like Pravda and Izvestia. Beyond that perhaps the Media tries to maintain the illusion that the Line IS the truth, the consensus, all else is fringe, extremism, etc...
The big test now is what Tucker does next. He has phenomenal potential to start his own network given his audience pull. But will he? Alot has been written about his personal ties to Frank Luntz and other Swamp Rats, so maybe he will be house trained and fade away.
Caitlin Johnstone pointed out that propaganda is the first goal of the msm and profit second. Carlson clearly crossed a line and became inconvenient to the state. He moved from controlled opposition like most Fox hosts to actual opposition. He probably had Greenwald on one too many times. The good news is that these rotten apparatchiks are still living in the old world. They think Carlson will fall into obscurity like Bill O'Reilly or something. They forget how well Greenwald and Russell Brand are doing on Rumble. They didn't deplatform Tucker, they just made him change platforms.
And my impression is that most people are saying "Fuck Fox" and not "Good riddance" -- meaning they'll move along with Tucker. (Like they did with Okeefe)
Also, a shoutout to Substack, which has now moved the "Post" button FAR FAR away from the "Cancel" button when replying to a comment. Kudos!
"By striking him down, he shall become more powerful than they could possibly imagine." Kudos, that's poignant and well crafted.
Definitely make it easier to comment while running a skidder lol

According to Megyn Kelly, he has THE lawyer, same as Don Lemon - a real pit bull was how Megyn described the lawyer.
That's reassuring. However, does he have a case?
It's tempting to say, well he should just go out there and start his own channel or whatever, but if his contract with Fox has a non-compete that was competently written, he is risking being wiped out in a lawsuit if he finds himself in front of the wrong judge. Yes, buuuut...let's first see what he does. He is undoubtedly under tremendous pressure to take a big biiig check and stay quiet.
Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental illness.
Unfortunately, many who are afflicted, are aggressive enough to be given a soap box.
But anyone who has dealt with these types, know how ill they really are.
