Clover Park School District in Lakewood, Washington, has just taken an extremely interesting step to combat ‘systemic racism’ in the schools: taking an offender’s race into account when deciding on punishment. Jason Rantz writes:
The Clover Park School District debated its new “culturally responsive” student discipline policy. It means student discipline would not be consistent based on conduct. Instead, a school considers a student’s race and background. It would likely offer harsher punishments to white students, even if the conduct is identical to that of a Black or Hispanic student.
To make student discipline outcomes more “equitable,” the policy must meet “individual student needs in a culturally responsive manner” via “culturally responsive discipline.”
The state officially defines “culturally responsive” as “knowledge of student cultural histories and contexts, as well as family norms and values in different cultures; knowledge and skills in accessing community resources and community and parent outreach; and skills in adapting instruction to students’ experiences and identifying cultural contexts for individual students.”
“They can’t know better because of their culture” seems pretty fucking racist to me. Remember when the soft bigotry of low expectations was something to be avoided, instead of mandated? And, with the exception of Joe Biden, none of us had any hand in the racist passage of laws in America’s past. Punishing present-day students for past mistakes doesn’t seem like a good idea. If you’re REALLY upset about those laws, maybe direct your anger to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
So it appears that after a decades-long fight for equality, the left’s answer seems to be (again and again) to divide everybody by race and ensure we’re ALWAYS talking about it. Hard to see how that leads to a color-blind society.
Here’s Rantz’s interview on Fox regarding the story:
Is it just me or does it feel like 60 years of real meaningful progress have been undone in 2 years?
because 'racism' goes round and round and round...so, for mixed kids, do we do a genetic panel to determine how white or black they are before they are disciplined if at all?
