The Genie Ain't Goin' Back in the Bottle....

Waiting for Biden's (inevitable?) departure

The political world has been standing still since Joe Biden’s catastrophic performance in the first 2024 Presidential Debate. For the moment, all the headlines are on Biden’s bad health instead of his bad policies — which might not be a win for Biden himself, but is almost certainly is a win for down-ballot Democrats who are talking about Biden instead of defending (for example) his failed immigration policy. Immediately after the debate, the mainstream media jumped on calls to replace Biden as the Democratic nominee, but Biden himself has remained adamant that he’s staying in the race.

This has caused Democrats to panic about the 2024 election in a way they (suspiciously) haven’t panicked this cycle — even though conventional wisdom says Democrats should get their teeth knocked in during the 2024 campaign season. It seems that half the Democratic electorate is apocalyptic about ‘stopping fascism’, while the other bristles about the party VERY PUBLICLY refusing to hold an authentic primary and then replacing the candidate it just protected from scrutiny.

(Notice how even last year, Joe hinted that “a lot of Democrats are concerned about Joe Biden.” Why? Because they knew the truth.)

What this panic says to me is that victory (meaning getting Democrats out of the White House) IS possible, because Democrats are suddenly VERY worried about losing an election in which they control basically every important institution in the country. Trump might say the gap is getting ‘too big to rig.’

In fact, about the only thing Democrats DON’T control is ‘conservative media’ — and they would certainly put this ‘Stack in that group. Although now ‘mainstream’ reporters are talking about having clues into Biden condition years ago, only ‘conservative media’ was actually putting up the clips and talking about this at the time. But (IMO) the only reason ‘conservative media’ exists in the first place is because the press is so politically captured by the Democrats that it alters literally everything published — to the point where video of Biden’s public appearances were called ‘fake’!

But now the media has turned on a dime and is going on the attack after ‘suddenly’ figuring out the truth of Biden’s condition, yet Biden himself says he’s staying in. However, statements like this one from Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) can’t really be walked back:

Even statements of support for Biden sound incredibly condescending:

Defending Democracy Question: Exactly how many members of that “presidential team” are actually on the ballot? Two?

That doesn’t exactly give me ‘defending freedom and democracy’ goosebumps. (And trust me, I am very prone to them.)

But there isn’t a problem in existence that can’t be made worse with the addition of Nancy Pelosi. Take a listen (if you can) of part of her appearance today on Morning Joe:

Pelosi: We will support Biden no matter what he decides.

MSNBC's Jonathan Lemire: He already decided, he’s in.

Pelosi: Whatever he eventually decides, we’ll support him.

The Democrats’ problem is (at least) two-fold: Obviously Biden and his condition are the crux of the issue, but almost as important is the obvious press cover-up into his condition. (They aren’t helping by pretending to be shocked — SHOCKED — that reporters are provided a list of ‘acceptable’ questions by the White House.) The more that gets leaked about how many people knew Biden isn’t all there, the worse the press (and the party elite) looks for ignoring the problem.

In perhaps the perfect example, now even George Clooney — who helped host the infamous LA fundraiser just three weeks ago — is saying Biden should step down:

You would think, when faced with this knowledge three weeks ago, Clooney would have spoken up then, instead of waiting for the President to bomb on the national stage. But since politics is more important to Clooney than having a functioning executive, he stayed silent until the jig was up. He’s definitely the type of person that I would take advice about morality from. 🙄

Later in the letter, Clooney went on to say:

And this really gives away the game. Three weeks ago, this footage —FROM THE CROWD — of the fundraiser’s conclusion was a ‘cheap fake’.

But now that Democrats are losing in the polls — and to save democracy, of course — we must allow the party elites and the political donors to override the will of the primary voters (not that they were given much choice) and replace Biden at the top of the ticket. After all — NOW, ‘everybody at the fundraiser’ knew Biden was unfit for office…..they just all declined to say anything, because politics > everything, and admitting the president has a problem would help Trump ‘end democracy’.

Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) went even further:

“If we are going on a political suicide mission, then we should at least be honest about it.”

He then laid out his reasoning:

“What matters is not how we feel but what the numbers tell us,” he said. “An unsentimental analysis of the cold hard numbers — which have no personal feelings or political loyalties — should inform what we decide and whom we nominate.” Ritchie Torres

And there you have it. An unsentimental analysist of the cold hard numbers should inform who they nominate. Not the voters actually going to the poll and casting votes. An analysis of the numbers. To save democracy.

This sentiment ignores the lack of a huge donkey in the room - there’s no obvious savior who can step in and deliver an election win against Trump. And nobody really wants the responsibility of forcing Biden out THEN LOSING ANYWAY. In such a situation, it’s almost assured ‘the grass is greener’ Democrats would convince themselves Biden could have won and start pointing fingers at the ‘usurpers’ — who, in this case, would have very little political power or protection. (A nightmare for any politician.)

So for the meantime, it seems like “whoever” is behind this sudden push to get Biden out *cough* Obama *cough* is willing to allow the press and ‘influencers’ like George Clooney to do the dirty work of forcing Joe out. I have the feeling this is still the “asking nicely” stage — we’ll know the situation is serious when the Hur tape gets leaked. (If it was good for Biden, it would have already been released to ‘increase confidence’ in his abilities.)

This is perhaps the best timeline — and certainly one of the most hilarious.

Bonus: Trump has (surprisingly) had the restraint to sit back and allow the Democrats to shoot themselves in the foot, holding his first rally since the debate debacle last night in Florida.
