It’s a pretty bad time to be a Democrat. Joe Biden continues his historic venture into record disapproval ratings, everyday life is in turmoil thanks to inflation, and nobody seems to care about the January 6th show trials. That’s bad enough, but recently the Supreme Court has handed down multiple rulings that have the left up in arms.
Before we get there, though, let’s take a quick trip down memory lane. Governments across the country seriously violated the rights of Americans via covid rules — nearly all of which were based on a governor’s order or emergency power, NOT based on proper law-making procedure. The politicians found a guy in a lab coat who would say what the politician wanted, and that became the basis of policy.
If you protested against these policies, you were smeared as an anti-science right winger who wanted to kill grandma. Breathless media reported how protestors ‘stormed the Michigan capital’. “The Science” uniformly proclaimed these people to be a threat to public health and that “now is the time to do as you’re told.” Protesting in the streets was bad, m’kay?
Two months later the narrative flipped 180 degrees.
Suddenly, not only was corona not the major concern when it came to protesting, RACISM was a MORE important matter of ‘public health’.
"However, as public health advocates, we do not condemn these gatherings as risky for COVID-19 transmission. We support them as vital to the national public health and to the threatened health specifically of Black people in the United States. We can show that support by facilitating safest protesting practices without detracting from demonstrators' ability to gather and demand change. This should not be confused with a permissive stance on all gatherings, particularly protests against stay-home orders." (emphasis mine)
They literally spelled out the rules for everybody to read: protesting for causes we like is fine. Protesting for OTHER causes is NOT allowed, nor is simply living normally. In Portland you really had two choices: quarantine or protest.
That set the tone for the narrative to once again flip 180 degrees on January 6th. Once again, protest was dangerous. This time, it didn’t just endanger public health, but democracy herself! Republicans were ignoring our sacred rules, which is insurrection! Ridiculous as these assertions were, the shrieking has continued to get louder, culminating in Soviet-style show trials put off until just before mid-terms.
So that (finally) sets the stage for the recent Supreme Court rulings. The first affirmed the right to carry a weapon in a concealed manner. This, of course, drove the anti-gun left crazy and led to my post asking about insurrection.
The dust hadn’t even settled before the court handed down the (leaked) decision overturning Roe v Wade, confirming what we all already knew was coming. This, of course, set off the political equivalent of a nuclear bomb, vaporizing all pretenses about democracy respecting our political institutions. As is often the case these days, The Bee nailed it:
Is THIS insurrection? Asking because at this point I’m super fucking confused.
And the media can’t wait to tell you all about how this ‘bans abortion’ in state after state. (Ironically, when you drill down into the articles, you see most states enact bans after 15 or so weeks, roughly the same time most European countries do.) Part of me thinks this is major part political opportunism, as Democrats desperately need SOMETHING to cling to as we get to mid-terms. (more on that later) Certainly if abortion was such an important part of the party plank, they should have done something about it while they had supermajorities, right? I think this is one of those issues I talk about a lot that is useful to fight against but not useful to solve.
It’s also worth pointing out that even as the left holds themselves up as defenders of democracy, they continue to ignore the actual rules of the Republic. Constitutionally, abortion is a state issue. (It’s right there in the 10th Amendment!) The more contentious an issue, the closer to home it should be decided. You have much more power over your state politicians than your national politicians, and if worse comes to worst, you can move to another state with a political leaning more to your liking.
In other words, moving this decision down to the states is an unadulterated win for democracy. They should be happy, right? Of course not. When democracy doesn’t go your way, it’s time to burn it all down. Over the weekend, way too many ‘important’ people were discussing where exactly on the plantation Clarence Thomas should work. (And you can be sure that if the Supreme Court enacted a national abortion ban, blue states would be abortion ‘sanctuary states’)
These rulings have (once again) revealed the hypocrisy of the left. They have the exact same political principles as tantrum-throwing toddlers. But shouting “I want this and will scream until I get my way” is no way to go through life. Even worse is vandalizing and burning pregnancy centers while doing it.
So now we’re at this sort-of embarrassing moment where Democrats have to be outraged about the events of January 6th, while staunchly ignoring the political violence that preceded that date AND the political violence since. They have to claim to be for our sacred institutions while also attacking them. They have to claim to defend our sacred rules while ignoring them.
And it’s not working. People have real stuff to worry about:
This chart by itself should show how much trouble the Democrats are in. The top 5 issue are generally ‘Republican’ issues, and the bottom 5 are what the Democrats seem to be running on this election cycle. And in that hot mess of political turds, none is as stinky as January 6th.
These losses at the Supreme Court might actually throw the Democrats a lifeline and a possible way to get the base excited for midterms. On the other hand, it’s just as likely Democrats will continue their insane push toward unlimited abortion and turn off potential voters. In that vein, our ‘favorite’ idiot Jay Inslee was in front of media telling the world that Washington state would be safe for abortion refugees:
“We are going to be very alert to plug any gaps in our privacy laws so that no one can expose the private information from a Washington citizen, or a citizen of a different state that comes here for services,” Inslee said. “We are not going to let that data go back to Texas, Missouri or Idaho.”
Sure! Trust government with sensitive information. What could possibly go wrong?
Oh.

Yep, Insanelee is all about medical privacy, unless it involves forcing experimental injections on unwilling subjects. That pompous twit really needs to just shut up and go away!
The left has lost its collective mind. Police Reform becomes Defund the Police because white police officers hunt down unarmed black males to kill. Too bad the data say otherwise. Limit police ability to enforce the law, and the law becomes whoever is least ethical about application of force. In both cases, the4 primary victims are black and brown.
Keep the Southern Border open. Result is drug trafficking, human trafficking for sexual slavery. That's "compassion." That's more B.S.
Respect sanctuary cities, Incoming migrants (can't call them "illegal aliens," hurts their feelings) head to urban centers where they victimize people of color and spread tropical diseases we haven't seen in decades. Again, compassion? No, B.S..
Transgenderism is real and affects no more than 0.4% of the population, less than one-quarter the number of flat-earth believers. We should join hands and walk with them through the adventure called life. We don't have to turn the whole country upside down.
Obama and now Biden's inexplicable dedication to ensuring Iran gets nuclear weapons has a greater chance of starting WW III than anything Putin does.
