Right, so I'm stealing the idea for the box with grass in it. My hens love to dig, so much so that I am going to have to deconstruct a currently unused coop plus the surrounding run. They've dug down so deep in that enclosure that not only are the previously buried netting showing, but the coop itself is wobbling when it's a high wind.
I built it on stilts you see, using earth anchors at each corner. This to make sure it doesn't get too cold in Winter. The coop is just refrigerator-sized but since it's got double walls plus sawdust insulation it weighs about 0.75mofos.
But now the anchors that are supposed to be two feet deep, are almost entirely exposed.
We've gotten ten chickens in total this year, and they look hilarious. The oldest ones are about a month now and are trying to fly.
Thanks again for fun videos...I will have to share the chicken grass idea with my daughter...(they too have a misting system! Much needed here in Az this time of year!) :-)
Otters were great! However, the cat not letting a person sleep in, well, what's worse than one of them Caterwauling? When they start in stereo, at 4-5 am! 😖
You cannot do this to me: ask me to pick my favorite of your posts, but otters are so so fun. I awoke from a bad dream and then I found this. You are so funny... I bet Bonnie is too and your lovely family. The "cat" instructions, while they do not usually apply to dogs, kind of apply to my Golden. He's so protective and loving.
There is a special place in my heart for otters, so I'm going with the otter video as my favorite, although I really liked the Cat Handbook, too. Cats are my favorite, have had cats for 40 yrs, their antics never gets old to me.
Fun fact: chickens purr. I learned that when I went to visit a friend, who raised chickens. Her little son told me about chickens purring, he put one in my hands and let me listen to it when he pet the chicken. He told me to put my fingers under the chicken's chin and sure enough I could feel the purr vibration but also could hear it.
They love it, but they've been getting up onto the sides of the coop when we let them out in the evenings. Bribing them with bread works, but it's still a worry.
Re: Brazen Theft -- Absolute proof that Humans and Canines have influenced the other's evolution, and we've truly grown up together -- I have *never* owned a dog, or really ever even been *around* a dog very much. And I could *still* instinctively read that dog's tail. We are *truly* co-evolved.
That poor pup, he lost his shirt. Crushing and sad.
The otters are ridiculously cute.
We have a screened in porch. I have allowed my strictly indoor cornish rex kittygirl Princess out there. She loves it! She thinks she is an outdoor kitty now. Ugh!
Thank you for sharing these wonderful carefully curated choices of happiness.
Haven't had any problems so far, and it's been long enough that the grass is growing long enough for them to eat. They walk over it no problem. I'd imagine that sooner or later you'd want to replace the chicken wire since it's constantly wet, but that's like a once-a-year thing?

Let me know how it goes!
Will do!
At the rate these hens are going, they're liable to dig up the fluffing Balrog!
Dang! This was a barrel of funny stuff! Could not stop laughing at the cat with the fly!

omgoodness, I forgot the first one, doggie wagging his tail.... until he didn't. Poor baby, I wanted to go play with him!

Just saw this 42 second video on You Tube, cat listening to classical music:

I wonder what their purring means. Really interesting!
So, my fave is gonna have to be the "Copulometer". Even if mine seems to be stuck on zero, or possibly even a negative value, these days.
Oh oh oh, chicken Heaven. 🐔🐤🐤🐤🐓

"Blowing Jasmine, in my mind..."
Isn't music awesome?
Will be sharing that chicken trick with some friends who have a bunch, seems like a great idea to try.

The more I see marine mammals, the more I realize that humans messed up.
I guess all protein is good but...
And--that dog video was so sneaky. I was--uh--keeping my eye on the ball so it was a real surprise when the t-shirt got purloined...
Mee too
I really want to know what he did with it afterwards.
Looks like he ran up the yard and was tossing it around. The camera sort of follows him up.
