Unrelated note mostly for Arne but not exclusively:
Darline Graham IS going to run for her brother's Senate spot, so by making this appointment now they have effectively granted her an incumbent bonus to go along with the name recognition bonus she already has. (My guess is that Lindsay's "backers" will also be on board.)
It reminds you of an Arkansas widow, Hattie Caraway, who took over her dead husband's Senate seat as a fill-in, then was a successful surprise candidate who got a big boost from Huey Long, then almost literally "stuck to her knitting" as senator, and was there for 13 years.
But the establishment should not be setting up one candidate with a huge advantage over another for this race. If Darline was going to run for the office, it should have gone to somebody else in the meantime.
When is that seat up for election? This year? Or two or four more years?
If she turns out to be another establishment whore, well... we've all seen what hard primarying can do to incumbents, this year. It was a distinctly killer race for a whole bunch of them, both at the state and national level.
The Republican establishment certainly can't let a good war mongering neocon go to waste... speaking of which, I just spoke to Mitch and he's feeling so much better he asked me if I wanted to join him at his lakeside cabin this weekend for some walleye fishing... I'm calling it "Weekend at Mitch's".
The Star Trek Space Balls analogy is spot on. Has anyone counted how many times the President has said "we will have a cease fire?" And of course, I'm a sucker for the dog videos. The one with the golden retrievers was hilarious. Also proved the point that in every group, there is always "the one."
When I bought my first cat door and installed it, the instructions explicitly said to demonstrate the door to the cat, but *under no circumstances* force the cat through. We spent an inordinate amount of time demonstrating, to no avail. Hours.
Finally a friend advised "Just get one on each side of the door and keep shoving the cat through back and forth". Within three minutes, the cat was using the door on his own.
I think the very first thing G figured out was the doggie door. Bonnie used to use it overnight but I think she wandered into a dog one night so now she sticks to jumping up in my window when she wants to come in. (G doesn't care and will happily cause a ruckus by running right by ALL the dogs.)
I had doggy door pre-installed on the storm door for my last house. I could get up on a Saturday, feed the dogs, open the safety panel and go back to bed. Then I made friends with two (semi by the time I was done) feral cats. They brought in birds, frogs and other gifts. I recently moved last November. No bueno on the dog door.
I hope it was as well, and I tell you, when I see COVID-era videos where the audience is masked, it is very surreal and I usually can't get through the videos.
OK, the Perpetual Motion Dog Wetting Machine was pretty hilarious. I liked the little... foxes? They were cute.
Poor little puppy. Some dogs (and cats, for that matter) have a very difficult time with the concept of the flap door.
Swimming Goldens was as adorable as Goldens tend to be.
"Smooth Operator" was uproarious. Looked amazing... right up to the end.
As a proud desert dwelling New Mexican though, I think I am constitutionally required to claim as my favorite the short film about boobs. I mean "haboobs". My bad. ;)
If the English team tries to get air conditioners through customs they will all be arrested for "crimes against the climate!" Also, they would probably be 120VAC and not compatible anyway. Kind of like the Obama's gifting region 1 DVDs to British PM Gordon Brown during a state visit.
Many large electronics have a switch to go between 120 and 240 VAC. It's pretty easy to make the wiring for the motors deal with it, it's really the fiddly electronic bits that need to be kept safe, and frankly, that's all likely very stepped down 12 VDC anyway. I have a welder that will run on either, though, that one doesn't even *have* any motors in it.
It was a joke. I understand that many appliances have switching power supplies, though not all. I also know that Europe switches their AC at 50 Hz while we run at 60 Hz. The fun part is when someone from Europe is so dedicated to their appliance brand that they import a 240 volt appliance.

One of my friends has an electronic one that only opens when the dog's collar is nearby. Pretty smart!

Pos: I made from out of old wooden cargo pallets a sort-of bookcase/shelving unit for the upstairs.
Neg: I made it in one piece an now it's too large to fit up the stairs.
