Irmgard probably supported many more than 10,500 murders. That was a compromise. But they made their point. Prevented repeats for a while. The first Nuremberg trials had to construct special rules to go that deep. Their population was motivated to find justice, to find closure. Our society has been indoctrinated to be more tolerant of misbehavior. We’ll probably never find enough motivation to punish anyone. Maybe a few corporate villains, who are always easy to hate. If they’re the correct demographics. The real villains aren’t the killers, but the multitudes who accepted them. After all, all the victims this time were volunteers. Tolerance is easier. But if we don’t get serious about this one, it will certainly happen again. Soon. The only question is who will survive the next one.

Expand full comment

I'm not sure I can quite agree that *all* of the victims were volunteers. Threatening to starve a man's family or destroy his career if he won't take the jab is pretty severe coercion.

Certainly, *all* is never likely for anything. But the coercion employed by the government was an easy call initially, but data became available fairly soon that the risk was higher than advertised. The damage doesn't seem to be from a single exposure, but increases with repeated exposure. Those who accepted the coercion either made no judgement at all, accepting the direction of unreliable authorities, or they knew there was a risk and decided their odds were better with the vax than without. Like mountain climbing, free diving and other risky activities, some survive to impress their friends with their courage, and some didn't. But they all volunteered, unfairly or not.

How many would have volunteered if they had bothered to learn the true risks? We'll never know, because fear always overrides rational judgement. The real benefit of this disaster is, next time many people will be more careful.

Absurd to go after a 97 year old woman who was a typist at a concentration camp in Poland as a teenager, and I'm sure relatives I never knew were victims, since my mother is of Polish descent and her family comes from Northern Poland. How much crime time will Bush/Cheney get for their lie of a war and those that voted to implement it? "The overall figures are stunning: 4.5 million displaced, 1-2 million widows, 5 million orphans, about one million dead—in one way or another, affecting nearly one in every two people in Iraq with tragically life-altering (or ending) impacts. By any sensible measure, it would be difficult to describe this as victory of any kind." How many years should those British colonialists that implemented famines in India and caused the deaths of some 100 million people over a 40 year time period have received if they had been held accountable for their horrific crimes? Oh, etc, etc, etc,

I very strongly suspect that if the concentration camp was in Northern Poland there were Polish people imprisoned there. I think something like one and half million Poles died in those camps. You never hear about Hitler's utter contempt for the Poles, the millions that died. He saw them as a totally inferior race and had really bad plans for them. When the Poles, Italians and Jews came to America they weren't even considered white and their status was below that of the Blacks, and in fact Poles were considered to be less then animals. As much as I too detest the Bush's & Cheney's of this world, there is a distinction. One was a war that was not ever over. The other, was a program of genocide. Huge difference.

Spare me, a war based on a lie and whose purpose was to destroy a country, and many were to follow that were not compliant with our agenda for the Middle East, as are countries like Saudi Arabia and Turkey. If you unfamiliar with a Project for a New American Century, look it up, and would you believe Cheney was a primary signatory along with Jeff Bush. All they needed they said to carry out their destruction of the Middle East and making to their liking, no matter the death toll, was a new Pearl Harbor and they got that with 9/11. Do you really want to call this a legitimate war? Do you want to call the destruction of Libya a legitimate war? Do you want to call our dirty war in Syria and legitimate war? How about Afghanistan, legitimate in your book? What about Yemen, the genocide in Yemen? Legitimate in your book?

Fact is, Iraq invaded Kuwait which brought on the first Gulf war in 1991. The US maintained a "No Fly Zone" over Iraq untill the second Gulf War, which was the completion of the first war. Are you really that heartless that you would want to put a 97 year old woman in jail? She was a teenager, and they brought up no significant proof she even knew what was going on/ There was no proof of criminal intent, so no liability. Why don't you think about why Germany would go through this charade.

I'm also thinking about the fact that when Germany fell, and the Russians came in, especially, and also the Americans... those guys raped every single female person they could grab, even little girls, old women, sometimes repeatedly, up to 30, 40, 50 times! I would guess that teenage typist probably paid a high price for being a German, period.

And unless there's evidence she did horrible things, well... you said it.

I'm sure women were raped, but I don't think on that level, I hope not. I didn't think about why they were doing this now. I think they found her guilty yesterday, and indicted her last month, not sure, and maybe you're right. Maybe it goes like this, you may freeze this winter, and they will, since I hear it's going to be a very cold winter for them, but maybe her conviction says we are a virtuous people now and we are going to stand by Ukraine. Sounds good to me. Ukraine, the most corrupt country in Europe and a self righteous idiot for a president. Sounds really good. If true, it's quite ironic since they are supporting a country over ridden with neo-nazis.

Expand full comment

I think the "level" was monstrous. That's what war does to men, and what men do to women. There's some kind of stupid reason they're doing this perverse pretense of "justice" now. I don't know what it is, but it's bound to be something far removed from actual justice. Ninety-seven, FFS. And all those top-level MEN, who absolutely were guilty of all sorts of hideous activity, came and worked for the US of A.

Sickening. The monstrosities just pile up. Ukraine is a hell hole and that the US is laundering money through is a monstrosity, too, while pretending to be "protecting" it from Russia.

I have to stop thinking about all this insanity and go empty myself of this stuff before I sleep.

Hugs.

When I consider teenage typists and the amount of contempt and revulsion we ought show them, I wonder about the documents they typed and what they thought about the words therein, and I think of other teenagers such as the kids in the White Rose and similar resistance movements.

What I think is true is that for many people like our now aged and convicted defendant, they continued to look back at those times with a fond nostalgia. They had privileges; they enjoyed flirting with those handsome officers; they had a sort of summer camp rather than death camp experience.

It's normal and understandable to go along with horrors because one is a single and powerless individual and to resist means to endanger one's entire family. One's own people are more important than strangers. Few people have the courage and grace to see beyond that, and act on it.
