After reading the above essay, I immediately thought of something that happened decades ago. It happened for a brief time before the public was made aware of it. It was Subliminal Advertising via the television. You could be watching any program and all of a sudden you would want to get up and let’s say, make popcorn………just pick something, it didn’t make any difference what the product was because, no one watching would know that it was happening. The product would appear in a fraction of a second to where no one would know that what you were watching had even been interrupted. BUT, YOUR BRAIN KNEW IT AND, THUS YOU WOULD GET UP AND MAKE POPCORN FROM A SPECIFIC BRAND. BRAIN WASHED!
The practice was short lived. It was shut down as quickly as it started but it was scary stuff.
I was a kid when my older brother told me about this. Then I read the books he had plus a few more (I was a total library nerd). I've been interested in human behavior ever since; was going to study it in college but realized that could turn out to be a worthless degree.
Anyway, I pay attention to language and visuals in ads. Repeated words, rhyming, nice sounding ones to which one can attach all sorts of positive attributes. Now they're busy being "diverse". Hasn't anybody told Madison Avenue it's a turn off? 🥱
Peggy…….this happened in our homes. I know that they did that in theaters, but, this was at home. Madison Avenue I’m sure we’re made aware of a NO, NO, at the time. It just goes to show you how slick things are. But, Peggy, if you thought that what your brother told you was interesting, I would think that what ever degree you were interested in would be an asset. Remember, you never know what’s around the next bend until you stumble on it. You might discover something that nobody has even thought of yet. Go for it!
Yes, I knew it was on TV. My not going down that path (In the 70's!!!) led me to becoming a systems analyst/engineer which I adored and brought about a very successful and interesting career. The more complicated the project, the more I wanted to do it.
But I've always had a curious mind about a variety of topics (all over the place LOL) so I never stop learning.
My mom had multiple books on this stuff. The example that sticks out is people in the movie theater being flashed something like "YOU WANT POPCORN" -- and popcorn sales were far over normal during those shows.
God, I hope it stopped. The theaters wasn’t what bothered me, although it does, but it happening right in your home was what sent my family into orbit.
I'm pretty sure the paid subs can already see my name, and I'm 100% positive that the government already knows who I am (or could find out if they cared).
At this point, I embrace my presence on 'THE LISTS' and am willing to be an example if I have to. :)
Safe to assume any of us appearing here in these discussions as readers or writers are on the lists. But the prejudicial practices of the self appointed royalty are such that they appear to include just about everyone on Planet Earth. They are terrified of our unalienable rights. Fear is our enemy.
Exactly. As I said in some comment or another, if THE LISTS include people like me, they're obviously casting far too wide of a net because I will promote peaceful and legal protest right up until they make that impossible -- then they'll have a lot more to worry about than my substack.
