A random thought occured: isn't the etymology of the word "mask" highly problematic no matter which hypothesis one chooses to hold true?
Because one school claims "mask" comes from an arabic word, "maskhara", meaning "buffoon" or "mockery" which might fit, but is hardly ideal should the CDC want to regain any trust or status as an authority. Another possible root from the arabic langiages is "sakhira": "to be mocked, ridiculed" - score one for language itself taking the Mickey.
The other possible origin however... oh my. Is literally "blackface" since it harkens back to the days of early theater when actors portraying moors, hunters and others doing unsavory nocturnal 'work' would blacken their faces.
Anyone who has a real woke aquintance might want to light the WokeMan-signal.

Haha. I'm in the same boat with United. Can trade for "gift cards" but at a loss and most of the stores represented are/have been part of all of the madness and I refuse to support them.

They're waiting for the expected boom in cases they saw in the UK, so they can "justify" the longer masking requirements and hope to reinstate the vaccine mandates. But there's a big difference between here and there... we have a MUCH higher percentage of people who REFUSED to get jabbed, where they had 90% compliance. So we won't have as much ADE.
Good point. But there's a bit of an extension from air travel requirements to standing in line to vote. (or justify a mail-in ballot - but hey, we can justify this in all kinds of silly ways, can't we?)
