Now for a Taste of Things to Come
The GOP debate, Trump's Tucker interview, and Biden's terrible Hawaii trip
Tonight, Milwaukee is the site of the first Republican debate of the primary season. With the glaring absence of Donald Trump — who will instead be featured in a Tucker Carlson interview running at the same time — the debate promises to be a battle between Ron DeSantis and political newcomer Vivek Ramaswamy, with also-rans such as Mike Pence and Chris Christie available for some Emergency Trump Bashing when called upon.
My sarcastic almost-live summary of the debate will go up as soon as the event ends, so be on the lookout for that in your inbox later tonight. Until then, pass the time by reading what I whipped up during the last State of the Union address:
Even without being in the room, Trump is expected to dominate the topic of debate. The former President is expected to turn himself in to Fulton County officials tomorrow, continuing the ‘perp parade’ that’s already included Rudy Giuliani and Trump lawyer John Eastman — who’s still sure the 2020 election was stolen. Apparent terms of Trump’s bond include provisions that he won’t speak badly about people involved in the suit — which includes Mike Pence, his political opponent in this race.
It feels to me like this is an attempt to criminalize Trump’s speech. Since he loves to talk and the terms of the bond are subjective, the court could simply declare Trump in violation and actually throw him in jail. (Another example of unipartiers looking for a way to get their desired outcome and then turning to lawfare, if you ask me.) In fact, the terms MAY go so far as to make Trump’s appearance in further debates legally impossible. (We’ll have to wait until they are finalized to see for sure.)
Personally, I think that Trump skipping the debate is a mistake. There’s always a chance to win over general election voters, and the attacks from CNN and MSNBC are going to be (and have been) way more vicious that the ones he’ll get from Pence and Christie. It feels like a missed opportunity to NOT be the crazy Trump that lots of people think that he is. At this point, he should already be looking past the primary to the general election, in my opinion.
But part of me does love the fact that both he and Tucker are getting back at Fox at the same time.
More information continues to come to light in the wake of the devastating wildfires in Hawaii and the incompetent response to the emergency:
What the headline SHOULD say is “Those who ignored government survived.”
But if you ask the mayor to tell you how many kids are dead, government doesn’t ignore you — it attacks you. That’s the attitude of our ‘public servants’ these days.
And nobody embodies that narcissistic indifference better than Joe Biden, who managed to jam his entire leg into his mouth after finally getting around to visiting Hawaii:
A friend asked me today what the odds are that Biden is the nominee in 2024, and at this point I’d say maybe 5%. The only way he runs is if America soundly rejects all replacements AND the election fix is in and they don’t have to worry about Americans wrecking “Our Democracy” at the voting booth.
Michelle Obama has a better chance of being the nominee, and that tells you everything you need to know about where we are politically.

Rudy's mugshot.
Yeesh, what a mess! Honestly, it's more CCCP than U.S.A. these musical chairs-style use of courts and allegations, and I don't say that to be mean but because I'm old enough to compare.
And I see what I see, and this is the way it was in CCCP after Leonid Brezjnev died.
