Not happy with little Marco Rubio as SOS but actions will tell over time. Russia does not have to be our enemy. The EU is more dangerous with their arrogance, stupidity and paranoia towards personal responsibility and hatred of free thinking Nationalist like Victor Orban. But having RFK Jr sweep out HHS and Gaetz doing the same at DOJ is worth just about any price. We also need people like Thomas Massie running part of the show. Awesome.

Thoughts on Trump just yesterday appointing Pompeo Lite as Secretary of Defense?

Expand full comment

I would not classify Hegseth as Pompeo Lite. He's a soldier and not a politician.

I hope so, but Little Marco as SOS? I don’t know.

I’m pretty sure he will end the Ukraine war, but I’m worried about what will happen in the Middle East. Lots of war pigs really want a war with Iran.

That would certainly be a disappointing pick, but until Trump comes out and says it, it's just a rumor. I share your views about Ukraine/Iran -- the warmongers might wind one down, but they will want to "surge' the other.

Pissed he skipped over Rick Grinnell. Thought he would've made a great pick.

I want to see Grinnell & Kash Patel put in somewhere.

Wanted Patel for CIA.

Grinnell will do well anywhere. He is just kewl.

I'm already seeing the emergence of Trump apologists, as in, Oh, these awful cabinet appointments are no big deal.

But they are a big deal because these appointees will be powerful in their own right.

I saw this same sort of apologists attitude at the start of Obama's first term, when he ignored the victims of the financial crisis and sided with the banksters who caused it.

I don’t think there could be two more different conflicts than Ukraine and Israel?

Ukraine is pure geopolitics and didn’t need to happen.

There are zero lessons from Ukraine that can be applied in Israel.

I just finished watching the last episode (8) of "The Penguin" by HBO. It's a great series about gangsters in Gotham City. The Penguin, Oswald Cobb, manipulates everyone to get to the top of the gang world for his mother and himself.

It wasn't until the last episode's conclusion, that I realized Donald J. Trump is The Penguin. Trump is only loyal to his ego and his family. Trump throws everyone else under the bus if it helps his climb to the top e.g. General Flynn, Julian Assange, January 6th protesters.

Trump is for Trump.

Go ahead and stop the wars for a few years. What happens when Trump is gone? These countries and their rulers go back to hating each other and the wars start up again to satisfy the neocons and the anti-humans. Get real.

The ONLY way to stop these horrible wars is for the people in charge of starting them and keeping them going into eternity have a change of heart, decide to trust one another or perhaps the best solution is that the people of the world demand they be stopped and use the good old pitchfork brigade to stop them if necessary.

This might sound harsh but I really don't care if Russia and Ukraine want to fight until the end of time - I just see no reason we should be funding it.

You can actually look at my country for an abject lesson proving what you say here. During and after the Thirty Years War, Sweden was a local "super"-power. Control of the trade across the Baltic, selling iron, wood, tar, charcoal, silver, copper, and hiring Walloon, English, Polish and German expertise to further improve what would become industry in the late 1700s.

But due to a lot of reasons, some forced upon us from the outside (Russia, Britain and France supporting Denmark to make trouble for us; normal Realpolitik, basically) but more importantly domestic squabbling in the ruling class and a heady a sense of being able to wield the power earned by conscripting farmboys and foreign mercenaries (by going into debt to bankers - sounds familiar?) cause us to go to war again and again, instead of consolidating and reinforcing the Realm to weather the eventual assaults by foreign powers. Meaning Russia.

And thus we lost, and kept losing.

I fear the USA is now in the cusp of making that same choice, though on a much greater scale. Small wonder given your yuge population, economy and modern technology. If Trump is as smart about this as he claims to be, and if Vance can keep at it in 2028, you may well usher in an age of reconstruction, consolidation and managing to switch over to playing power-politics using trade as your no. 1 leverage, using troops to defend the homeland only.

(Though that's how your adventurism started once - sending a ramshackle ragtag navy to deal with Barbary Coast pirates, ending up bribing them again and again to keep their mitts off trading ships. Ever wondered why France, Italy or Britain who at the time certainly had the power to deal permanently with said pirates didn't? Yup. "Let him and you fight" is sound, if dirty pool, foreign policy.)

If you - the USA - don't learn your elites to put the nation first (yes, even before profits) you'll face a long degrading slide into eventual collapse, finally going the way of the British Empire and the Soviet Union somewhen on the other side of 2050.

Or I'm way off, always a possibility of course.

R: Interesting perspective.

(Brilliant writer, analyst, contrarian) Charles Krauthammer's take on the historical analysis of wars is also about the USA's ability to 'assist' in a war without 'taking' the territory after victory. "Defenders of Democracy!" I'm not sure we Americans are as noble as CK believed, but we sure installed some 'fabulous' powers. (Gulp!)

Trump appointing warmonger Waltz, "antisemitism" showboater Stefanik and Rubio means Trump will start a new war, maybe with Iran.

And FYI: Trump didn't win; the Democrats threw the election. Biden sabotaged the steal in return for Trump's promise to let Biden skate on his family's corruption.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Yes. Biden threw the election in return for Trump giving Biden a pass on his family's corruption.

The Stefanik choice also does not inspire confidence. We who voted for Trump may have given the dems the middle finger, but the people who actually run the country will continue wars. When Ukraine dies out (almost literally) they have another in the oven, I'm sure.

Though I know it is not popular on this sub stack to call the genocide in Gaza, genocide, I do. Stefanik is an Israeli sympathist. I do not like having Netanyahu as my de facto president.

Maybe no one likes Candace but she has a video concerning 9/11. I've heard other sources talk about the men caught on camera celebrating in NJ as they watched the twin towers be attacked. I even saw them misidentified as being Arab. There's some misinformation for you. Here's Candace.

The Mike Waltz pick does not inspire confidence.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/11/politics/mike-waltz-national-security-adviser/index.html

Waltz’s selection may be seen as a blow in the debate over a renewed Trump “America First” agenda that’s pitting his party’s national security hawks against its isolationist wing. A former Bush White House policy staffer, Waltz would likely take on a foreign policy stance more akin to Trump’s former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
