It’s been just over a month since Lori Lightfoot announced the city’s vax pass (to stop hospitals from being overwhelmed) we started watching Chicago’s hospital stats. On 12/22 when the article was published, there were just over 600 covid-positive patients in the hospital, which was 85% full.
On 1/9 covid-positive patients had rocketed up to just over 1,600! Surely all those extra people were overwhelming the system right? Not exactly. Though covid-positive patients surged, the hospital was actually LESS busy than on 12/22 — only 82.6% full.
Now the winter wave has peaked in Chicago and is receding. Today covid-positive patients are down to 770, almost a 50% drop in the last couple weeks. Great news all around!
But how has the discharge of almost 900 covid-positive patients actually moved the needle with regards to hospital capacity? (The answer probably won’t surprise you)
Not even 1% less occupied — 81.8% vs. 82.6%. Once again we see the number of covid patients in the hospital has very little impact on overall hospital usage.
However, it’s clear that whatever danger the hospitals might have been in has passed. Hospitalizations are dropping like a rock. It seems like now would be a good time to check in on the vaccine pass requirements. Remember the city said:
The Public Health Order will remain in effect until the City of Chicago is through this Omicron-driven surge and the risk of overwhelming hospital capacity has passed.
Yet ‘strangely’ the city is silent dropping the requirements. Another reminder that politicians want power and will do anything they can to get it. Once they have it, they will do anything they can to keep it. That’s why it’s VITAL that once the smoke clears, we remove the ability for the ‘leaders’ to do something like this again. Even if Lori Lightfoot decides to lift the restrictions tomorrow, the danger of her or another ‘leader’ using this avenue to destroy our rights remains.
Winning doesn’t just mean getting restrictions lifted, it means destroying the loopholes being used to violate our rights.
Edit: Special thanks to Rose Loomis, who points out that in Chicago you don’t have to be vaccinated to attend a large indoor event, but DO have to be vaccinated to EAT at said event.
Based on guidance from the City of Chicago, the current health and safety protocols are in effect for the PUBLIC DAYS (Feb. 12-21) of the 2022 Chicago Auto Show.
Masks are REQUIRED for all attendees age 2 and over, except when eating and drinking. Masks must cover the nose and mouth.
Proof of COVID-19 vaccine WILL NOT be required for admission. However, designated areas will be set up for the consumption of food and beverage and proof of COVID-19 vaccine WILL BE required for entry into those areas. As a result of this requirement, outside food and beverage are not permitted into the 2022 Chicago Auto Show.
I can’t even really make a joke about this because it’s so obviously stupid and arbitrary.
Whatever the hell "this" is....when it finally ends, we need to smash their faces into it like a dog who's left a dump somewhere they shouldn't. We need to imprison some, embarrass others, and change laws everywhere so this CAN'T happen ever again.
It will take a while but we can't stop until it's all done!
I try very hard to understand why some people got vaccinated, and not to judge them.
But I'm not going to extend the same courtesy to those who show their vaccine cards to get privileges denied to others (whether they're students attending school in LA or diners at a restaurant in Chicago). Not even when they acknowledge its uselessness and stupidity (looking at you, Bari Weiss, since you've made the news recently). I'm not sure I'm ever going to be able to get over their complicity.
