As always, it turns out the editor was right. Had I sent this off last night, we’d be missing the headlining news: the Ministry of Truth Disinformation Governance Board has been paused, citing a ‘extreme’ reaction to its existence in the first place.
DHS officials expressed disappointment and outrage at the firestorm of fault-finding prompted by the establishment of the board, which was tasked with standardizing the handling of disinformation by agencies under DHS.
"The reaction has been extreme," a senior DHS official told reporters in a briefing Wednesday. "There have been gross mischaracterizations of what the board's work would be."
An extremely negative reaction to the government deciding what is and isn’t truth, and putting an extreme partisan in charge?
If there was an official killing blow to the DGB — which was at the very least suggested by the Atlantic Council — it was probably when Rand Paul (who won his primary election last night) reminded DHS Secretary Mayorkas that the US government was a huge perpetrator of mis/dis/malinformation:
(Close your eyes and he ALMOST sounds like his dad.)
This is another example of what may be the saving grace of the Biden administration — the complete incompetence of the Biden administration. In this case, the idea was so repugnant and antithetical to America that the DGB was dissolved almost as soon as it was created (especially when measured in government time). Americans who voted for Biden voted for a ‘return to normal’ with the ‘adults back in charge’, not for somebody who would attempt to fundamentally transform the United States of America.
And while inflation is devastating families across the country, we have to remember that it could have been much, much worse. Before Biden was even admitting inflation was a problem, he wanted to spend trillions more on his “Build Back Better” Act. It was, once again, simple incompetence that stopped Biden’s plan, as he was unable to convince even members of his own party to support the bill. What would inflation look like right now with another couple trillion dollars raining down on the politically connected?
And while Biden continues to claim that passing BBB is the key to stopping inflation (talk about malinformation!), it seems that everybody else in DC knows the idea is dead in the water, especially with midterms really ramping up. Who is going to put their re-election on the line and vote for trillions of spending right now — especially for this guy?
With his approval at record lows (again), and the midterms looking to be a historic blowout, Biden’s incompetence may save us all.
This has nothing to do with politics (thank heaven!), but it does prove you never know what you’re gonna see at the ballpark: The Cincinnati Reds threw a no-hitter and lost on Sunday. (Technically it doesn’t count as a no-hitter because Reds’ pitchers only threw eight innings) This was only the sixth time in baseball history (and the first time since 2008) that a team has won a game without getting a hit.
If, say, a tarot reader ten years ago had predicted I'd increasingly be regarding Rand Paul a hero during my still-sentient but rapidly-tarnishing golden years, I'd have ripped up her cards. Go figure.
I agree completely with your assessment. I used to joke that Biden had “ Chauncey Gardner” potential…..I was wrong, Biden makes the Peter Sellers’s character look outright brilliant. This administration frightens me with their staggering incompetence and media enabled corruption. Did anyone consider that DGB sounds an awful lot like KGB ? Disinformation? Nah… That’s their lingo for propaganda and censorship.
