The readers here seem to be fixated on the walls, and their simplistic labels, and not the hapless occupants who got themselves into a destructive situation and aren't smart enough to recognize their error, much less the way out. Lincoln's best quote was government by the people. Most people seem to think abdicating the responsibility for self governance can be accomplished by handing their duties off to a politician fronting a label. Never has worked well, never will. Until people realize they have to be involved in their governance, we'll keep declining. Labels are irrelevant, just marketing jingles to entrance the stupid.
Desmet's new book has some pretty good explanations how we get this way. Basically, it's our nature to behave like cattle. If we act like cattle we should expect to bee treated like cattle. Mooove along. Nothing to see here.
