Pawsitive Monday: DNC Edition
Send in the clowns......
(Note for new subscribers: On Monday, I recap some of the positive stories/funny memes I’ve come across in the last week. Feel free to add your own in the comments!)
Greeting, Screamers! Hope you’ve been enjoying the last few days of ‘silence’ as much as I’ve enjoyed taking advantage of the last chance to ‘unplug’ from politics before November’s election. The Democratic National Convention kicks off tonight, and I’ve dug up some appropriate photos!
The unofficial mascot of the DNC:
(The official mascot, of course, is Jeffery Marsh.)
Clearly, Kamala Harris is still avoiding the press:
The honest version of this year’s DNC mascot:
Mister clownfish does not approve of the cultural appropriation:
“……looks like you wandered into the wrong neighborhood, friend.”
“take the gun, leave the tuna.”
One of the things that’s made me happy this year is the surprising success of the Royals:
A baseball season is a long journey (though sometimes the Royals are realistically out of it by mid-June), and watching a young team learn how to win has been a lot of fun. If I can, I schedule my actual writing time around the Royals game and have it on in the background. (Edit: Another win tonight!)
This is important to my well-being because the Trailblazers are so awful. But this is Monday, we’re not thinking about that!
Sticking to the world of sports, it turns out Charles Barkley is kind of the man:
Even though TNT is no longer able to broadcast NBC games, Barkley will keep his team together to produce sports commentary shows. Bosses — that’s how you do it!
When you finally find a friend who loves to play as much as you do:
This has been the mantra for the last couple days:
I think I saw this on Robert Malone’s ‘Stack….which means word is spreading of the uprising.
I, for one, welcome our new feline overlords. (I have a very high cat staff rating.)
Fun fact: a cat’s favorite sleeping position is one in which it can feel its prey still struggling:
When I’m out there in the weeds looking for good Monday content, sometimes all I find is more weeds. But once I saw this, I knew you had to see it, too:
In positive political news, Georgia’s state election board passed a radical new rule suggesting the vote totals should match the number of votes cast. (WEIRD!)
Of course, the press spun this as a BAD THING, because — I’m being serious here — the investigations might delay election certification. Who cares if it’s RIGHT, as long as it’s FAST? (Unless they need to delay the counting themselves, of course!)
When checking out that Barkley story, I came across Releaf Paper — a company that produces paper from an unlikely source:
This is exactly the type of ‘green’ thinking I can get behind — an enterprising young mind sees a problem (fallen city leaves), and creates a novel solution that turns a nuisance into an asset! Well done!
Uh oh, Substack tells me I’m close to the length limit, so I guess I’ll finish today’s post off with this happy dog doing happy dog stuff!
You know the drill, Screamers — tell us about what made you happy this week in the comments below!

Boston just lost so the Royals have a 4.5 game lead in the Wild Card with 37 games to play. It's getting real.
You can't spell "DUNCE" without "DNC"!
