Thoughts: If that is the complete text exchange between the two, it seems to me the exchange is a cover story trying to exonerate the roommate and/or others from having previous knowledge. If I found out my roommate (not to mention my lover!) had just killed an extremely high profile target, I'd be freaking out MUCH more than Lance was. No text saying to turn himself in? No frantic phone calls after you get the news? You just sit and don't say ANYTHING while Robinson drives the 260 miles to his parents house?
The statement “since Trump got into office [my dad’s] been pretty diehard MAGA” is the one that made me believe this was a a completely scripted and staged convo. If you live with this guy, he already knew that. You don’t enlighten someone in a convo like this articulated as if you’re giving your reason for the very first time. He most certainly lamented about this before to his boyfriend. That tells me this WHOLE thing has been plotted and planned for a while and they have other plans that he will escape accountability through holes in the law or something. He’s too calm. He turned himself in too easily and too quickly and gave a play by play about it in this convo.
Reasonably, you'd need a couple of other exchanges before making a judgement either way. I'm guessing the investigators are looking at more than just these messages just to make sure the language is consistent.
It's one of the things a teacher learns, or is supposed to at least, recognising the student's style and flow and structure. Otherwise we couldn't tell if someone's been improving or if they have had someone else write an assignment for them, or used AI.
Not easy and certainly not infallible as everyone who's been accused of having had a parent write something for them knows, but our written language coforms to pattersn that we develop over time. Of course, it's easier when it's hand-written - screens makes it much more difficult to identify all the little tells.
Oh yes, they have the full discord logs. I don't expect to see those until trial, but I do hope the FBI states if these are ALL the messages between the two or if some were held back for some reason.
That's great, from those they can easily see what if any pattern there is to the language used and perhaps also spot any signs of the murderer's descent into extremism/mental unhealth.
1) Speculating/arguing that a murderer is mentally ill in some way, manner or form is a defense-mechanism we subconsciously adopt (aided and abetted by media and our pop-cultural programming) so that we don't have to acknowledge that anyone of us could, given the right circumstances, commit murder in the eyes of the law
2) Most murders are not carried out by the mentally ill; corollary to that however is that many murders are carried out by people in a temporarily elevated mental state akin to psychosis. On a way, you could say that during the actual act the murderer is mentall ill/unstable, but not before or after - domestic abuse ending in death is the typical example, and most of the time drugs and/or alcohol is involved.
3) Also, consider that if we can claim the murderer in this case was in some way mentally unstable in such a way it affected his choices and decision-making process, we do not have to deal with the real possibility of there being one or several groups actively working to create random murderers out of people they are able to radicalise; i.e. if it's mentally ill people being mentally that's the cause of murders, we don't have to do anything ourselves in the way of forming miitias, training, engaging in politics and so on.
In a very real way, what you ask is in the same - highly relevant - vein of questions people ask after various atrocities: "How could anyone give the order to do that/carry those orders out?". For a better explanation I'd suggest Hannah Arendt's "The Banality of Evil" and "Eichmann in Jerusalem".
Nah. The Occam's razor: Robinson misjudged his lover's loyalty and his sense of victimhood. Lance doesn't love Robinson and behaves like somebody disgusted. Not all gay/trans are woke. I'm sure Robinson had other LGBTQ friends.
Consider that he's a "traditional" trans (unlike the modern masculine men in dresses suffering from autogynephilia), a young feminine gay man who dreams about dating straight men, marrying, adopting children, playing a feminine role. This happens. And he's reportedly a fan of Jordan Peterson. Go figure.
My guess is that the recent personality change reported by his parents is because Tyler fell into this relationship with a MTF tranny who is a sociopath/narcissist and was awash in the sick community they interacted with online. I think he (Tyler) was manipulated into this and this text chain is plausible deniability for the partner.
EXACTLY my thoughts. The language also doesn’t seem natural —for anyone, much less a Gen Z. Also, what kid calls his father “the old man”, or calls his boyfriend “my love”?
Terminally online people (especially texters) tend to have peculiar ways of writing. It's possible he just talks like that, but if that's the case we'll see it in the other logs. But by the end of the exchange, there's much less emphasis on capitalization and grammar.
I don’t find the messages we have from the roommate very incriminating or suspicious, though I’m not prejudging anything that may come out later.
If I were not involved in something like this, and heard from someone close to me that they did it, which is like going from 0 to 100 in a second, I might just ask a few incredulous questions and then shut down, both for emotional reasons, and frankly because I’d be thinking of my own legal exposure.
That's totally possible, and we certainly might be missing messages in the log. But the roommate got that note on the 10th and (AFAIK?) waited until the police showed up to start talking.
It’s an interesting point you and others have made that Robinson’s own statements to the roommate are suggestive of covering tracks, but that’s much thinner ice for imputing guilt to the roomie than his own actions. I think we’ll just have to wait to see on that.
I’m as ready as any to condemn the genderist ideology as a horror show and societal poison, but the roommate deserves to be judged as an individual.
Speaking of planning for a week, there was a petition (now closed) to cancel the Charlie's visit to UVU a week prior to the murder. They now have replaced the original text with another text condemning the murder, I couldn't find the original text archived, but plenty of comments are of the type "I'm a queer/trans, I feel unsafe with the hater Charlie Kirk on campus". The university declined to cancel the visit. Was murder the next "logical" step?
What's the chance that Robinson communicated with some of those UVU students who shared his online communities? I find the weirdest part is that he knew well how to get to the roof, it's not obvious for an outsider (like me) looking at maps. This could've been the "opportunity", somebody helped him to plan. If I were an investigator, I would start from visiting the LGBTQ+ Intercultural Engagement center at the university campus, ironically, pretty close on the map to where Kirk was speaking.
I see a very similar page for Utah State that's still up, but I couldn't find the UVU archived version, either -- looks like when they changed the name it changed the URL and the search function doesn't work on the archived change.org.
You can still read the comments, though -- most were made before the shooting.
This event was scheduled for September 30 but the petition was published earlier than for UVU. The UVU petition might've been created after this one.
This petition is closed but it didn't bother to unknowledge Charlie's death. Perhaps, all universities in the tour would have those petitions with the same keywords and reasoning. They're just zombies. One comment says that students kept signing this petition even after Kirk was dead.
Where is the gun in the pictures that were released? I saw it in the video afterward, but where was it in the pics and/or when and where were the pics taken?
I heard that, also. But when they carried him out to the parking lot, his shirt rode up and his torso was bare. He was also wearing a necklace which gave the illusion of the shoulder strap of a vest.
Why didn’t they put pressure on the wound and call an ambulance? Nobody even tried to put pressure on the wound!
There should have been an ambulance and ENT standing by at a large event like this. It’s usually required by local laws. Why wasn’t there an ambulance on site?
I’ve never seen anyone pick up a seriously injured person and throw them into a vehicle. You put pressure on the wound, do not move the person, and call 911.
This is a glaring reason that I call BS on this. (Besides the fake blood and white shoes with no blood on them, the plane with no transponder, the freakish video of the widow stroking a yellow hand in the coffin while wearing weird diamond rings.)
applying pressure to the carotid artery will cause a blood clot that would reduce any blood flow to the brain, additionally the clot form at the wound site would cause a stroke.
sadly, getting shot in the neck is always a disaster.
I wanted to not believe the initial statement on the news. It was that specific in their wording, and I was not hopeful. There are a few parts of the human body that will instantly fail with a bullet.

A hit to the aortic artery, or even lower at the branch is also fatal.

The only loose end I'm aware of is: Where is the gun in the pictures that were released? I saw it in the video afterward, but where was it in the pics and/or when and where were the pics taken?
I see now that his backpack was large/long enough to conceal the stock and separately the assembled action, barrel and scope. Disassembly and reassembly can impact the the rifle's zero. This may partially account for the sloppy shooting.
I think odds are roughly 0% the FBI literally fabricated the quotes, there's an entire procedure of digital forensic evidence, and making up text messages that could be so easily proven fake by either person (blowing the cases) would be an insane, firing-level offense.
The odds are much higher the conversation is staged to "exonerate" Briggs once Robinson realizes he's fucked.

In that wooded area, investigators found a bolt-action rifle wrapped in a towel. The rifle contained one spent round and three unspent rounds. "Delete this exchange."
LOL
Interesting theory about the purpose of the messaging. It makes a lot of sense.

is it possible the killer is not mentally unstable and just wanted to kill does every killer have to have mental problems
I think I understand how you mean:
1) Speculating/arguing that a murderer is mentally ill in some way, manner or form is a defense-mechanism we subconsciously adopt (aided and abetted by media and our pop-cultural programming) so that we don't have to acknowledge that anyone of us could, given the right circumstances, commit murder in the eyes of the law

Daily Mail, it provides a lot of details.

Agree. And 21 year old gamers just don’t communicate in whole sentences…
I seem to recall this was part of the plot of a Breaking Bad episode
That would explain it....
EXACTLY my thoughts. The language also doesn’t seem natural —for anyone, much less a Gen Z. Also, what kid calls his father “the old man”, or calls his boyfriend “my love”?
Yes. almost seems like it was written by someone who either does not have modern American English as a mother tongue, or is temporally displaced…
Terminally online people (especially texters) tend to have peculiar ways of writing. It's possible he just talks like that, but if that's the case we'll see it in the other logs. But by the end of the exchange, there's much less emphasis on capitalization and grammar.
There were a couple TikToks of the boyfriend on X. He looked extremely goofy and awkward. I’m guessing neither are too attached to the real world.
this is always the defense...no excuses please
I’m not willing to excuse anything they’ve done. It was just my observation of him. They both deserve total culpability for their actions.
no excuse
Lacking capacity to make rational decisions negates intent, a crucial part of the crime - the mens rea part.
when is cold blooded murder “rational”.. no excuses
Agree
Sort of related, I only today read the "written factual proffer" brought by the U.S. last year for putting Ryan Routh in jail before his trial: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25171983-14-usa-proffer-pretrial-detention/
Routh allegedly was carrying plates "capable of stopping small arms fire."
I don’t find the messages we have from the roommate very incriminating or suspicious, though I’m not prejudging anything that may come out later.

If Count 6 is based on just that final text message, I think it should fail.
I am not a fan of that charge, either.

We are inclusive people, so don't include people like Charlie, he's a threat to our inclusive community.
WE DID IT! (But really mostly you)
Edit - wow it's the exact same wording as the USU petition.

This whole thing is horrible.
Where is the gun in the pictures that were released? I saw it in the video afterward, but where was it in the pics and/or when and where were the pics taken?
Where is the bullet that is said to have struck Charlie?
IIRC it struck his vest and fragmented, and a large fragment went into Charlie's neck.
There have been conflicting accounts on those details. Have you seen any info from official sources?
As far as I know there's been no medical report released or press conference given.
I heard that, also. But when they carried him out to the parking lot, his shirt rode up and his torso was bare. He was also wearing a necklace which gave the illusion of the shoulder strap of a vest.
Probably went through and kept going. May have fragmented and/or careened all the way to Utah Lake.
Very special bullet!
Why didn’t they put pressure on the wound and call an ambulance? Nobody even tried to put pressure on the wound!
There should have been an ambulance and ENT standing by at a large event like this. It’s usually required by local laws. Why wasn’t there an ambulance on site?

applying pressure to the carotid artery will cause a blood clot that would reduce any blood flow to the brain, additionally the clot form at the wound site would cause a stroke.
I doubt if they knew that, I didn't. But you can always call 911 and get first aid instructions, and an ambulance for crying out loud.
sadly, getting shot in the neck is always a disaster.
I wanted to not believe the initial statement on the news. It was that specific in their wording, and I was not hopeful. There are a few parts of the human body that will instantly fail with a bullet.
Sometimes being an olden nurse, I know too much
Something I read said that he could have been shot in the middle of the ER and it wouldn't have mattered.
the carotid artery, is more fatal than the femoral artery of course.
A hit to the aortic artery, or even lower at the branch is also fatal.

comparison. woman stabbed in the neck on train. died in minutes.. lots of blood.. stabbed not shot
even a small nick to the carotid artery can cause catastrophic blood loss.
I still say this guy is a patsy. This was a well planned and executed hit that seems very similar to the Butler PA attempt on DJT.
Like Crooks, Robinson wasn't a stupid guy, but unlike Crooks, he isn't dead and left lots of evidence.
Trials in Utah are televised :D
This ties it up all too neatly. I don't buy it. There's far too many loose ends. I'm still calling Ms. Cline.
The only loose end I'm aware of is: Where is the gun in the pictures that were released? I saw it in the video afterward, but where was it in the pics and/or when and where were the pics taken?
From what I've gathered, the gun was broken down and he put it together on the roof. Lots of questions there, though.
I'm gonna wait until more comes to light. Which it will.
firing squad
Do you think that Robinson may have been planning on the firing squad all along? The usual scenario for this type of killer is that he dies at his own hand or by provoking police to do it for him. In Utah Robinson would expect a firing squad. It has the advantage of drawing a huge amount of attention to the drama of his death, and would be viral online. Previous killers of this type have sought publicity and closely followed publicity about similar young men.
He told his dad he'd rather kill himself than turn himself in.
Okay, this implies he might think he has a chance of avoiding the death penalty. That is consistent with his reported refusal to cooperate with the investigation.
but he didnt did he. a coward. he could have done the world a huge favor
I'm glad he didn't.
Uncovering the network will be doing the world a much bigger favor.
like the person in the UK who went on a hunger strike. that is until he got hungry
"I SKIPPED LUNCH!"
Stunning and brave.
This shooter basically claims his motive was to stop hateful speech. He is an absolute idiot. Charlie Kirk was very far from a hate driven agenda. There are influencers and speakers that fit the shooter's idea of a needful target, but it certainly wasn't Charlie. The fact the murderer thought that is directly attributable to the left's extreme rhetoric that has been spewed as "factual", not only by their fringes, but by supposed, leading Democrats.
You're thinking about this as if Robinson were psychologically near normal - but he could have, at a minimum, Borderline Personality Disorder, and potentially, psychopathy. Kirk's performances set off normal people, to a person with BPD, that could put them over the brink.
I won't argue that he is near normal, in fact I would think that anyone who plans and the executes murder, probably lacks empathy and is psychopathic to one degree or another. I'm certainly not an expert on the subject, but I think there are probably more like him, who just haven't been nudged to the point of action...yet, by the equally psychopathic rhetoric pushed out by "respectable" Democratic leaders. Their nonstop rhetoric, which began with demonization, crossed over to encouragement and culminated in celebration of murder is, for lack of a better descriptor, evil.
Well said!
Indeed, and the "woke" indoctrination feeds into it - as well as social media. I wrote this piece - https://streamfortyseven.substack.com/p/some-thoughts-about-a-potential-civil - about that, and made some expanded comments along those lines, along with possible reasons for those things, and some possible actions to take.

I think the casing stays in the rifle after the shot in this partiular gun
