Monday Pick-Me-Up
A cure for the post Super Bowl hangover
(Note for new subscribers: On Monday, I recap some of the positive stories I’ve come across in the last week. Feel free to add your own in the comments!)
We start the week off with congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs for winning this year’s Super Bowl, 38-35 over the Philadelphia Eagles. It was an exciting game that came down to the very end, and I’m particularly happy for all my KC Royals friends who are also Chiefs fans.
(They’ve seriously got to do something about the turf, though. You can’t have people slipping when trying to make a cut — or a kick.)
What happens to the “extra” food when the Super Bowl is over is less of a mystery. Food Recovery Network swoops in and redistributes it throughout the area. FRN chapters are found throughout the country, but there’s plenty of room to grow!
One of the most amazing things about terrible natural disasters, like the recent earthquakes devastating parts of Turkey and Syria, is the amazing outpouring of support to help those in the middle of the crisis.
Humans have an incredible capacity for caring.
If you’re of a particular age, you might remember an adorable movie called “Short Circuit” that told the story of a robot that broke its programming and yearned to live free. “Johnny 5 is Alive!”
This week grocery story Marty made a similar run for freedom:
As we near Valentine’s Day I want to remind everybody that while flowers wilt and die, potatoes grow and multiply — so why do girls get so upset when they get potatoes for Valentine’s Day?

I'm not gonna get over-excited over that huge charitable donation until I find out how the guy made his money. I've had a little too much experience of the rich of that origin area and their lavish displays of generosity while the day-to-day is often pretty grimly exploitative.
But I am very grateful for the sacrifice of this Mexican disaster rescue dog. May every juicy treat be his in the Wherever, forever and ever amen.

I am long done pretending to fit in with the compliant... actually , I’m enjoying my increasing presence as “ she who was apparently right.” I would love to have a $ for every eye roll given to my assessment of COVID and the vaccines....
