Thank you for this happiness booster. I took your shot without even checking for side effects. Heck, I would have done that even it had only been tested on eight mice.
I got particular joy out of the picture of the cat tree with the cat sitting in a box instead. I have the exact same cat tree and 3 large cats. The cat tree is definitely showing its wear and tear after 3 years, but the thing they like the most to this day, is the box it came in! We taped it up and cut doors and windows in it and they still play in it every day! (Dang tough box!)
Thanks for your HAPPY posts! We all need to be reminded that all is not lost and there is still a lot of good in this world!
Several weeks ago, I ordered from someone on Etsy, a custom made mask. It is black double layered chiffon. Extremely comfortable…….I stuck in my purse……..never intending to wear it…….then, one day a family member needed a mask as it was required by a nighttime school function. His first words were to me……”this is so confortable and it’s double layered!” Then he asked if it was protective against Covid. And, without hesitation and a shit-eating grin on my face I said……
“Oh, HELL NO!”
The only reason I bought it was to appease the lemmings out there so they would back off.
I have no problem with anyone wearing a mask, by the way.
You are making my life complicated. I've already marked February 3 as the date to invest in a 2nd Substack writer (I'm currently paying to read Dr. Robert Malone's articles) and your writing has long been in a dead heat with MONEY CIRCUS, EDWARD SLAVSQUAT, and IGOR CHUDOV.
Your decision to add kitty photos is turning the tide in your favor.
What is this with cats and boxes I wonder? In their original habitats in Africa, there's nothing of the kind in the wild, so it can hardly be a hereditary instinct.
While I always laud and applaud honest charities (not the ones used to get tax deductions or virtue cred) where the givers actualy give and helt at cost to themselves - so my morals are archaic, so sue me ;) - it sadly cannot replace basic communal welfare.
We have centuries of empirical proof of that, sadly. There's not enough charitable people with resources, time or other to meet even the mostbasic needs.
(Which is no excuse or defense for modern welfare systems becoming a self-perpetuating trap and a slave-collar for the lumpenproletariat, forcing them to vote for whomever promises the most for the leas effort.)
Despite the fact that there are nothing like boxes in the wilds of Africa, isn’t it amazing that lions and other big cats who live in captivity (zoos, etc) all like boxes and will spend hours in them!? Makes ya wonder!
What a great idea. I'm not averse to tears, but shedding for sad tales needs to be balanced by shedding for joyful ones. And the neighbourly thing ... nail on the head. GO SC!
As a dog, I am NOT ashamed or shy to say I love the kittehz. Give 'em what they want... they are boxers. Just don't get too happy with the squirrelz... ballooooon! wooof.
Yay, kitties! That was fun - and positive, too! The kitty in the FedEx box is doing what I call "irate customer ears." Irate customers at banks look a lot like that (until you cheer them up). I used to end up in customer service periodically but I have no idea why they make me think of cats with their ears back. Or vice versa.
Love the positive post! As someone who has both cats and a dog named Chloe living under my roof, my heart is singing. We call boxes here “cat traps” and they work very well. Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year.
That's one thing, I've never quite grasped, Boxing Day. (The British Boxing Day, not your version. Your version I understand purr-fectly.)
Kind of makes you sad that the governor of Florida has to do what we pay the federal government for, but in a bright spot, due to the intelligence of our founders, the governor of Florida *can* do what we pay the federal government for.
Here's a dog story. Lived in Manhattan until I was 5. I went with a baby sitter to Central Park just around this time of year. It had ponds for skating, but not at that age. I escaped from Jennie's watchful eye and skated on the ice all by myself. I fell through and was lucky to get to its edge, but soaked in ice water, and a tug from the bottom no one could get me out. A woman with a German Shepard flew over and her dog grabbed by coat sleeve. She pulled and pulled and got me out. That started my mission to help throwaways and my first one was named Blacky and my uncle and aunt took her. That was just the beginning. I have nothing but contempt for those who dispose of their dogs on streets, in parks and then ride away.
While I'm not fond of German Shepherds (it's a long story, but let's just say Spooky was not a good choice for a family), this dog was a hero. I was saved from a kidnapper by my dad's dog, his trusty Airedale. I share your contempt for anyone that would throw away any pet, canine or feline. Glad you're saving some of them.
OMG,……..AIREDALES……..we had an Airedale, Daisy, many years ago. It was not my first experience with an Airedale…….family members had one. They are silly, goofy and devoted and great guard dogs.
Mom said ours raised us. She taught us to walk (we held on to her fur), and she herded us faithfully. She once abandoned her puppies to care for us, so Mom had to raise the puppies!
I grew up with a German Shepherd in Germany. His name was Stöffi, which is a nickname for Christopher. Anyway, he was great dog but a huge chicken shit... there was a Convent at the top of the hill and they’d come down our street for their Spaziergang ( walk).. he’d fly to the door and cry to get in, their Habits scared him!!! LOL! Great memory!
Thanks... whether it’s a good sign or bad omen for aging, my long term memory is bringing back a lot of sweet childhood memories, a welcome balm at this point! Happy New Year!

I'm glad you are doing this!

No one is coming, it’s up to us.
Unless you put out a box. Then a cat will appear. But that’s it.
That sounds about right.

"Just as effective as any other mask."
Exactly……..that was my point.
Imagine being 3 years into covid and still thinking that a mask would protect you........
I think that there must be some people that have gotten used to being controlled and that’s way more scary than the virus.
Slight correction Denise- not just some but MANY
Heyjude….Thanks for the correction. You are absolutely right!

and I love your writing.
No matter what you end up deciding, it's the right call! Building the Substack community is more important than building my tiny little corner of it!

love the kitty photos of them in boxes and bags! Happy 2023!!

Maybe they came to Earth via boxed-shaped drop-pods, and now harbour a secret longing for the Mother-box to come collect them?
Now, that was funny!

It's a pretty good description!

To you and yours as well!
I like this new feature!
You forgot to include my poll about asses
Not all heroes wear capes, SC.

That depicts my Daisy as well……..I’m smiling right now.
Wow, scary for you, but what a great dog story that makes, and thanks. I try my best.
God, I miss my German Shepherd …….great story. I needed that.

Martha, you never disappoint!

Still smiling……….
Happy new year to you as well.
