'Leaders' Want Credit for NPIs, Let's Oblige Them

Late last night, Reason’s Robby Soave published an article — based on leaked audio of a closed-door House Energy and Commerce committee briefing — detailing how the CDC's Rochelle Walensky is holding firm on masking in schools, even as mandates are set to expire across the country.

"So all of these studies have limitations. But they are for the most part uniformly pointing to that when there's a lot of disease out there, the masks are preventing that disease and preventing that transmission and because of that we are able to keep our schools open."

This continues a trend of blue-state ‘leaders’ taking credit for falling numbers BECAUSE of the Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) put in place to defeat covid. I say, if the ‘leaders’ want to take credit for the NPIs, we should let them. But first we should tally up exactly what we got with those NPIs.

What did you get with NPIs?

First of all, you likely got covid. For all the pain and sacrifice demanded by the pushers of NPIs, the measures completely and totally failed to stop the virus. And not just because of ‘selfish Americans’, they failed everywhere. Every life we ruined, every dollar we spent, every healthy person we tested, every second we were enforcing ‘the rules’ — all of it was for nothing. But somehow the equation gets worse.

If you were like many Americans, you got fat during NPIs, actually increasing your chances of bad outcomes from covid. Maybe staying inside gave you vitamin D deficiency, again increasing your risk from covid.

Small business owner? You got devastated by government forcing you closed. If you were a landlord, you got to deal with government telling your tenants they didn’t have to pay you. In either case, your world was turned upside-down due to government edicts.

You got to watch the ‘experts’ twist data until it was unrecognizable, and viciously attack those who questioned our covid response. You definitely got badgered, threatened, lied to, treated like an unruly child, and spoken down to by the ‘leaders’ pushing the NPIs that didn’t work — and that the science knew wouldn’t work.

Then you got to watch those same exact people ignore their own rules.

Most likely you got a whole new social scene as you were shunned by your friends and family, perhaps because you dared contract the virus, perhaps because you didn’t want the vaccine, or spoke out against mandates. If you were vocal, you got kicked off social media.

Perhaps you believed the ‘leaders’ when they told you that you wouldn’t get covid with the vaccine. In that case you got a lifetime of worrying about side effects, hopefully along with a healthy distrust of the ‘experts’.

If you were like thousands of working Americans, you got a pink slip because you didn’t go along with a vaccine mandate that was ultimately shot down. A mandate which, by the way, Biden promised wouldn’t happen.

Support protestors or people guilty of ‘wrongthink’? You got yourself on a Homeland Security list, or got your bank account frozen! Maybe you got your info leaked and are being contacted by the media! Only a small step to freezing your money for your political views!

Now that covid is dragging down poll numbers, the ‘leaders’ are going to declare victory and pat themselves on the back for the NPIs they claim were the key to defeating the virus. They will remain silent on states that lifted those NPIs long ago, or never even had them to begin with, because those states lay bare the truth — we never had control over the virus and destroyed untold lives pretending we did.

So when these ‘leaders’ demand credit for NPIs, let’s oblige them — in the form of obliterating all vestiges of their power.
