Today’s a day I’m catching up on my ‘Stack “backlog” instead of writing, but I did want to take a moment to appreciate the wonderful game of baseball. Check out the scene after a long rain delay last week in Kansas City:
Even better, this was one of KC’s “Bark at the Park” games, in which fans can bring their puppers to the game. This led to some adorable rain delay pictures, like this one:
One of the things that I love about baseball is that you never know what you’re going to see. Any ordinary day can turn into a no-hitter, a walk-off homer, or any of a million other crazy results:
The quirks of baseball can strike at any time…..even in the middle of an otherwise boring at-bat:
I’ve been around the sun more than few times at this point, and this play astounds me EVERY SINGLE TIME. What are the odds this happens? Did anybody even think this was POSSIBLE until it happened? I doubt it. In fact, I’m guessing the gate was SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to unlock from the bottom just in case a stray foul ball came down on the lock.
But not all amazing baseball quirks have such a happy ending. In fact, this play from last week is basically the OPPOSITE of a happy ending:
Mike Zunino (the catcher) with the perfect example of adding insult to injury.
I’ll pass on a re-watch, though.
Hope everybody enjoys the weekend! This also serves as the weekend open thread, so feel free to comment about anything and everything down below!
