1930s Government: Use "Marijuana", It's Racist
2020s Government: Stop using "Marijuana", it's racist
Washington state continues its long slide from one of the best states in the country to arguably the worst. (Thanks, Jay Inslee!) We’re finally digging out of the mess of covid rules and restrictions only to be smothered by inflation, and the state government is focusing their attention where it’s needed most: removing the word “marijuana” from state laws. Ironically, they are taking this step for the exact reason that governments around the country started using the word in the first place: racism.
The Evergreen State legislature recently passed a bill banning the word “marijuana” from official state law and documents over concerns that it is “racist.” At the same time, to help increase diversity in the cannabis business, a taxpayer-funded task force has been spending the last two years focusing on helping minorities in Washington state break into the marijuana business.
“The term ‘marijuana’ itself is pejorative and racist,” Washington state Representative Melanie Morgan (D) said during testimony regarding the piece of legislation officially known as House Bill 1210, which she also sponsored.
While it’s nice that government would '(finally) get around to acknowledging the racism that led to marijuana cannabis prohibition, this doesn’t rank on the top 100 issues in the state.
Of course, the ‘leaders’ aren’t any better at the important stuff, so maybe we should only allow them to handle minor stuff like what they call weed:
This is Inslee virtue signaling at its worst. (Those of you not lucky enough to live here may know Inslee as ‘that guy who couldn’t get 1% of the primary vote’) When people are getting fired for idiotic healthcare worker mandates and destroyed by inflation, they don’t have the time to worry about hypothetical climate concerns in a century.
Biden also has this issue, as he wants to dole out an ADDITIONAL $45 billion to ‘combat’ the climate problem. And just like covid spending, the vast majority of that money will end up in the pockets of the connected, and more than a little will find its way back into the re-election campaigns of the politicians who made it possible in the first place.
At this point, Biden and Inslee should check their ‘climate privilege’, because the rest of us are too worried about maneuvering through the major obstacles these ‘leaders’ have placed in front of us.
Inslee continues to act Insanelee! Meanwhile, my family continues to discuss whether to leave the state. Although we live in a solidly conservative part of WA (former home of Loren Culp), his dictatorial reign is still destroying our quality of life and stealing our freedoms. Unfortunately, rural areas have no hope of outvoting the heavily-populated hellholes on the left side of the state, so I expect things to get much worse.
I suppose one can no longer "twist up a fattie" either, for fear of shaming the obese?
